Classics Reborn

Old as in the 90's TV series based on the movie with the awesome sound track?

I remember when it came out and as soon as I heard it didn't have Lambert or the soundtrack I refused to watch it. I did however catch the first few series years later on rerun. Daltry did appear in it but I can't remember how long for, I don;t think it was the entire seven or eight series.

Yeah that's the one.

Ok yeah I thought it was him. There actually was a lot of Queen on that show. Different songs. The one that sticks out has the line " who wants to live forever" and the theme was...Princes of the universe. I'm not sure if that's the name of the song. I think Lambert pops up in an episode or two at some point but he's not a regular. They made it so the guy is from the same clan as him.

Queen's It's a King Of Magic was at the time the closest thing there was to a movie soundtrack. 'Princes' was used in both the movie and the series and another five or six songs were written specifically for the movie after the band Marillion turned down the offer to do it. I don't know how many of those songs got used it the series but the movie did have different arrangements of the songs that Queen released as singles.

Yeah I've got the live album that Eddie was on and I remember the single but it's amazing to think that it's worth that much because it's uncut. I wonder if the person that took it ever thought it be that valuable. I know they were printed in limited numbers but that price is still amazing.

The commercial release was in the shape of Eddie. It was cut around the red edges expect in the part around Eddie's left hand where you can see the circle of the sound track. I'm fairly sure they did a few other shapes at and around that time as well, other bands did it too but I can't remember any off the top of my head because they weren't something I bought.

Edit: Do an image search for shaped picture discs there is quite a few there was also a Trooper one in the top few results on my search

Some of them do look pretty cool, but they were usually more expensive (costs money to cut things up I guess) so I never got too interested in them.

From memory there was the mass produced ones and the 'collectors' ones and different record companies did different things. I've got a Jump In The Fire picture disc which is just the LP with a picture and it was about $10. I think Maiden did similar but the cut ones were about $15-20 then the 'collectors' were $30+. But I doubt anything sold commercially would ever reach that value of that one above.

Yeah the pageantry is great :headbang:

I guess it does come a bit from knowing that just about anything they can dream up can be reproduced no matter what it costs. The entire stage show looks to be on a scale few other bands could afford to do.
