COB Interviews

I wonder how things would be if Alexi hadn't burnt his vocals cords around 2002 and had he not damaged his hands... well, since that can't be helped, main challenge lies in keeping the mood and creativity where it needs to be, to salvage what is still attainable.

Shoulder, wrist, mental issues. I mean any one of them or all could account for what's going on. That recent video of Angels Don't Kill is a disaster, he totally misses the climax both in his playing and in his awareness. It's Janne who sort of has to step up. Maybe the physical stuff is affecting his mind more. Still don't see why now though. Shoulders and joints in general are messy and don't heal well, problems should have come up around that time and if things weren't ok the problems should have prevailed not suddenly pop up now. Well, who knows.

From memory he broke his right wrist in 2004 or so which is when his playing started to suffer. As Inceptionist mentioned his playing was mainly picking nearly every note & after the injury he began to not smoothly use his wrist which you can tell by watching live videos where he's practically using his shoulder to do alternate picking

And what has this to do with his lead-writing-abilities? Or with his playing and writing skills at all?
i think its not so much composition ability but if his physical ability is decreased he is not going to be able to play more intricate creative stuff. especially not live which im sure he has to think about.

In Alexis case, thats bullshit. Just take a look at the NMF and Ugly solos and/or the complete rhythm parts in HoB (album). That riffs are faster, more complex and more complicated than most of his earlier stuff.

Yah thats true. but there is clearly something wrong with his live lead playing. he never seems to have trouble playing the rhythm parts, even the more complicated ones but he always really struggles with the leads. and keep in mind that when recording we have no idea how many takes it took him to nail it.

When he can play HoB live or BBT at + 15% speed, he should be able to play his own solos. He was never a fake guitarist who composes solos which he can't play so it's a simple thing.

In germany we call this 'lack of practice'.

" Children Of Bodom has been on the scene over 20 years, their last album "Hexed" has been released last March and it got a lot of consensus from media and fans. Before their show at Porispere, we had the opportunity to meet Alexi and talk about their music, the upcoming shows and much more. "

Idk if it was posted before, but here is the first interview on Jyrki from 1999 on the occasion of the release of Tokyo Warhearts. (Alexi & Janne)

This is the second, with Alexi and Alexander.

And the third one, with Jaska, Alexander and Henkka. Unfortunately, it was badly converted/decoded so it's a bit laggy, also no English sub.

Awesome stuff. Is that a cardboard cutout of a naked girl with Alexi's head behind Jaska?

No. 99,99% of people in Finland were left in the understanding that Bodom quit. But there wasn't anything in the newspaper; I assumed the mainstream media would try to pull front pages with 'Finland's most successful metal band quit', but nothing. 99,9% of people just fucking hate metal. You could have a guy write a new Hatebreeder and even his own family would tell him he'd be better off doing something amazing like cleaning toilets.
