That's it, I'm done with windows, too many years with that shit

Lost everything setup-wise, and it's a major PITA to reinstall everything, plus I lost my reaper custom setup, so yup, now i'll be starting to migrate to Mac :D

Cheers!

Best decision ever, a few days ago I installed Reaper on a PC to try X50, I was about to crash my head on this shit every 2 seconds. My Macbook Pro is 4 years old and still works like a charm :)

(facepalm)

You don't "reinstall everything" when it "crashes"...

You should just fix the problem and leave anything else just the way it was.

You don't even need to reinstall when buying a new PC, you just ghost it to the new HDD.

My current WinXP install is at least 5 years old and i have absolutelly no troubles with it when i don't do anything stupid/experimental with it.

Yep. It's fine if you want to move to Mac, but don't paint it this way. Sounds like you just want to justify expenses to yourself ;)
RLab, I find your post hilarious, no offence. Even Apple guys would be ashamed to use it for their marketing campaign :)

The op stated clearly that the whole system is lost, thus a re-install is necessary. I don't think he reformats the drive every time his Internet browser crashes.

Also, what's with linking to a PC maintenance book for a guy who has already started moving to an iMac. That just comes across as petty and defensive, to be totally honest.

Seriously, the windows fanboys are much more annoying than any apple fan i've ever come across.

Congrats.
I reluctantly made the switch because I was going to do a business venture with a friend and now I'm comfortable with the Mac. Don't feel like going back.
I still have the PC and use it to browse, irc, play Tribes 2 and I've had to reformat it twice so far since the switch.

So this was a software failure not a hardware one?

Couldn't you just dual boot another operating system to get your files back (just curious)?

He obviously couldn't.

Thats the main problem with Mac guys... they just can't use a PC ;)

Ahah by re-reading myself it sounds quite ridiculous I admit, but I think I'm just too much used to OSX, going back to PC is probably almost impossible to me :D and I am not proud of it but I'm an Apple kind of fanboy... but I heal myself ;)

It was the built-in webcam driver that caused a BSOD, and since then, windows wouldn't load, just system restore, and system restore couldn't find working restoration points (which I just had done before installing the iLok2 drivers 2 days ago).

So after crashing for a problem with it's own hardware everything was gone. I don't care about my files, I could have saved them, but the point is I'd still have to reinstall all the programs, and most of my purchases are digital downloads, so go figure!

Nah, I'm just starting from scratch here to keep working until I get my Mac setup. Gonna take this as a "renovate or die" thing...

Cheers!

Just an off topic note, ever since I started building my own PCs I have never had a BSOD crash or any crash outside hardware failure. Brand name PCs are garbage when it comes to quality control, it would almost seem as if they want to convert PC users to Mac.

I like how PC guys always come back with retorts about how easy the problems are to fix and how much money we're wasting instead of troubleshooting... some of us just do not give a single fuck about using a computer and are more focused on getting things done. If that means I have to throw a bit more money at something to avoid headache and downtime, then so be it - it's not like i'm incapable or computer illiterate. I've worked IT in office buildings and have built more computers than I care to count, but I'd still rather throw money at a Mac than go back to dealing with actual computing BS any day of the week.

This x2

What do all of you guys do with your Windows builds to have so much trouble with it? Damn even my old Macbook (RIP) was on Windows most of the time... The ONLY time I had trouble with a computer, it was hardware issues, which is independent from the M$ issue... I had RAM issues with this same Macbook.

The "Apple/Mac OS X = no headaches" is a damn myth. I had my part of headaches with my Macbook too... They weren't the SAME problems, Windows has their drivers problems, Mac has permissions/preferences/etc. issues, but hey, ALL computers are gonna fail sometimes... Just last week, I had to troubleshoot my stepfathers iMac, the font cache appeared to be corrupt and the OS just hang'd at each reboot when it was about to load Spotlight.
