if you have to surf for porn, how about trying some more reliable sites (like redtube) instead of getting viruses from random places? Also you said that you had multiple machines, you could've avoided the formatting if you would've just put the HD to the other computer and run the virusscanner on it
I never said it wasn't my fault. I downloaded a file, opened it, clicked setup (before you start flaming me: IT WAS NO WAREZ.) and things started getting worse and worse.
I guess I will try my best to install XP somehow.

That porn thing was a joke (and porn was not the reason I got that virus) and the other computers I was talking about are laptops. I don't think my problem right now is very serious. It's just about the network and it has to be some kind of setting problem. Thats it. I'm not a pro. XP and Vista having a lot of compatibility problems.
If you could give us a link to that site... I will stick to vista and give a fuck about our network problems.
with macs you can`t install an earlier version of the os than the computer shipped with. not sure about pc though
I allready tried to install xp on this computer right after I got it about a year ago. No chance. As far as I can say. I tried with formating and everything. As I said I'm not a geek about that stuff. Everything works stable now except for that network thing. It's so ridiculous.

The problem with vista is that it uses another system to partition the harddrives then XP, so unless you set "automatic disk translation" when you install vista, you wont be able just to install xp afterwards.

In the future theres no reason to hose the system if you get a nasty virus that renders your security features no existent, all you need to do is download UBCD4WIN--its a live cd that has numerous virus and malware scanners installed. Basically, instead of booting from the hard drive it will boot from the cd--completely bypassing the infected operating system (and the various protections the virus has put in place) and you can scan and disinfect the entire file system
Also, if you want to install XP on a SATA drive you need XP sp2 or the sata drivers
