No, it's the dude who stated that the most important factor to distinguish between death metal and other genres was death metal vocals. I believe, at the time, I quoted no less than 3 prominent death metal bands who stated the same.
Halford is the Metal-God. So you might have to think about Judas Priest not being a metal band alittle more. I occasionally listen to Priest,Sabbath, and Maiden and like them all just as much as each other. All three are very different bands.
Really glad one of the 'old schoolers' agrees with me that Somewhere in Time is Maiden's best. Although, after seeing most of Seventh Son performed live by Maiden, that is quickly moving to the top.

Some of the Burn the Priest stuff is alright and New American Gospel is good but everything after that ranges from mediocre to awful.

I'm not sure I can nail down one song but take a song like Laid to Rest, I mean it's ok for what it is (especially for 16 year old kids discovering metal and developing their taste) but it's about as generic as it can get. New American Gospel was raw, powerful and interesting and imho they never captured its intensity and creativity again.

Agreed. I probably listen to Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules twice as much as I listen to all the Ozzie records combined.

The fact that cry for pompeii is better than either of these ACTUAL HAIR METAL SONGS, is a case for my point. Their hair metal wasn't that great and their more straight up traditional and epic songs are better.
Lamb of God is atrocious, but a good live act in many ways.
Not sure if this is controversial or not but Surgical Steel may be the best extreme metal album of the past 2 or 3 years.
