Cornford Cabs? Anyone got any experiences?

Jesus, pine? That thing would probably dent if you looked at it funny, it's like clay wood! Don't expect durability, I guess, and tonally it's a variant; damn near every cab I can think of is birch ply (or occasionally MDF).

Well, Kranks are poplar, but we all know how much people love those cabs ;)

Guthrie Govan uses Cornford heads and cabs I believe and man what a killer tone he gets... I've been listening to his Erotic Cakes album non stop lately... Tone and emotionally playing for days... Not sure how the cabs hold up but those heads are heaven...

I did think that, everyone else uses ply and there's gotta be a reason for it. Though it could just be for the strength/weight ratio.

Also got a potentially good deal going on a Marshall 4x12" with V30's (though I know they're not real V30's, so am only gonna go for that if it goes really cheap)

Haha Guthrie what a leg! Used to be one of my teachers
Cornford are a bit meh if you ask me!

But at least they're expensive! :goggly: (though I guess not this one, apparently - seriously though, who the hell would think of making a cab, something that's supposed to be durable and roadworthy, out of pine? Unless there's some harder species I'm not aware of... :zombie: )

cobhc, naw man, I lolled :D

I think Cornford cabs are probably gonna be quite nice sounding, but fragile, as mentioned. I mean, if it's a good deal, bite... but I'd sooner go for Orange or something I think. I guess you're looking at a Marshall 1960A/BV, also?

I've been cab shopping recently and I'm considering a Randall R412XLTX. More $$$, though.

To be honest I'm looking at anything with V30's.

Thought I had a good deal going on a Marshall but it turns out after a bit of research that the seller was bullshitting me when I asked him what speakers were in the cab.

Think the Cornford could be pretty good. Just seems a bit of a wild card tonally as most cabs are ply.
Durability isn't really an issue because its not gonna be gigged, got a Marshall 2x12" for that which is nice and easy on the back, lol.

Also looking into the Laney TT cab (£300) Marshall 1960BV (£380) Line 6 Spider Valve (£400) and Orange/Blackstar. (£500ish)

Orange and Blackstar look really good but obv its more cash :(

Checkout Matamp dude. You can get a 2x12 for £349 that wont break your back, and you can pick the speakers! I'm going to get one with Celestion Hot100's because it sounded phat when I played one the other night at a gig.

Cheers for that, have checked them out and they seem pretty good. Emailed Matamp to get a quote. They look pretty solid, quite similar to Orange in construction, and I like that its customiseable.

Yeah, they're awesome, a lot better than Cornford in build quality I'd say. They sound immense, I used one when we played in Sheffield.

This month I'm replacing my Les Paul's electronics, but next month, I'm getting a Matamp cab.

Blackstars are now £580 :( Although there's one on eBay still going for £500 IIRC. Line6 Spider Valve's have gotten good reviews here, and they're good value. try the sucker out, and make sure it sounds good very loud and is pretty heavy (ensuring quality), and you're sorted.
