Cowboys & Aliens

Yeah, it was pre'goo'.

It was about as "good" as Daredevil.:yuk:

But seriously, if you like sci-fi/action you'll find much to like about it. Even though in all honesty, it was not very good--equal parts Platoon, Starship Troopers, War of the Worlds and Monsters--, and the awesome cast was horribly wasted. Hmm...sounds familiar eh?

Wtf, I suppose you could say that the characters in Battle LA were equally poorly written as those of Daredevil (which would be a HUGE stretch) but even so, the people in Battle LA did a much better job with what was given to them than ANYONE in Daredevil! My opinion, of course, but... Come on. :p

so
you're saying
Battle LA > Daredevil

Neither movie was that good, and given the choice, I'm not sure what film I would pick if I had to watch one again. Battle LA has a cast that is phenomenally slumming well below their potential, and it's probably because they might have thought the script looked great and then the director turned out to be a huge dud. The pacing is terrible and after a while it just looks like I'm watching someone play Killzone.

Heh, this is a bit harsher than the words I'd use, but I find this hilarious:

Young men: If you attend this crap with friends who admire it, tactfully inform them they are idiots. Young women: If your date likes this movie, tell him you've been thinking it over, and you think you should consider spending some time apart.

Cowboys & Aliens was okay. I was really hyped for it for some reason. It wasn't the best movie in the world but I enjoyed it. It was some fun sci-fi campiness, and that's what I like.

I enjoyed Battle LA. It was like an intense war movie, but with aliens in it. It gave it a sort of video game vibe.

I'm surprised there's been no mention of Skyline. Lots of people hated it and I enjoyed it. It was like an homage to many other alien flicks and it was much more intense than I expected. Too bad with all the negative reviews there will probably never be a sequel (which they were hoping for).

Let's face it, nothing is going to live up to Independence Day. People need to realize that and accept these new invasion films for what they are.

I know you can't judge a book by it's cover, but honestly if there ever were a case to be made it would have to be this movie. I mean, 'Cowboys and Aliens'.....the fucking name just gives away the fact that it's a complete joke.

the title explains what the movie is
so that no one goes in thinking it's going to be something like "the king's speach"
i think Cowboys And Aliens was prolly entertaining to those people that liked the 3rd transformers movie

Come on now. What other movie was literally the Vietnam war, but with with Aliens in it that still has yet to be beaten? :D

I actually enjoyed it too, despite the fact that it's still not that great. Also, I'm not sure why I like Independence Day as much as I do. It's an entirely brain-dead movie, and pretty much the only good movie Roland Emmerich has ever made. I watched it when it was released and loved it, and I just watched it again about a week ago, thinking I wouldn't be able to finish it. The one scene that always stood out the most though, for it's pure incredulity was the "wonder dog" scene in the tunnel.

All blondes are dumb. All Jews are...

I have the most inappropriate and non PC thought right now.

yeah
independence day was decent, but ican't figure out why everyone keeps refering to it as better than any other alien movie, for me the ones with sigourney weaver and the ones with vin deisel were all better than independence day

Idependence Day was one of the most memorable "invasion" or "disaster" movies. In no way is it the best alien related movie. I'm not sure I'd agree with the Pitch Black movies being better movies overall, but I could say that I greatly enjoyed them almost equally.

Still though, nothing has been able to top Alien or Aliens. Might happen some day, but it's been 32/25 years. District 9 is pretty high up there too though.

Another good alien based movie is Men In Black. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think one of the main reasons I liked both Independence Day as well as Men in Black is Will Smith. I suppose they could have gotten anyone, but it's just the added comedy element that didn't suck that made them more enjoyable. Tommy Lee Jones and Smith made a great pair too. Men in Black also has a phenomenally stellar soundtrack. Gotta love Danny Elfman. The cool thing about it too is that despite it being 14 years old, most of the effects really stand up even today, and look better than much of the CGI shittfest that's in "modern" movies. Please, if you can't afford to hire ILM don't bother. Stick to silicone.

Will Smith is pretty decent, overall. He's covered a lot of ground, acting wise, when you look over his career. And done a pretty good job, too.
