"Cult" u.s. metal

Yeah, but do you download or buy? I mean, if you're buying then you're still having to go to all the trouble of finding a vendor that's selling it, especially because they're difficult to find. Seems like you have lots of original pressings too.

By the way, same applies to NWOBHM. Lots of bands that self-released a phenomenal 7" and then just vanished....what an era!

I buy. I have few full albums on mp3 (and most of them are stuff like queens of the stone age, sigur ros, archive etc).
Dont forget that the situation in Greece (and Europe in general) is different from the usa. Most metal stores here bring albums from underground labels dedicated to the sound we are talking about. For God's shake im living in the country where Brocas Helm gave their first non San Francisco live ever :p
Also its about what someone listens. I know people who listen ONLY to heavy/power metal, and they have like almost every single GOOD ALBUM of the genre and they are searching for demos only now.
Also you are talking about "originals", thats kinda relevant. "Old metal" records have re-released some vinyl albums on cds that can be considered "original", but the bands dont know the existance of these cds (Witch Cross for example). Also another label (Evil Legend probably knows it, and old metal too), "Reborn Classics" released some cds which had two different original releases in them (for example one cd which had : Satan's Host - Metal From Hell, and Sanctuary - Into The Mirror Live).
Generally since you started to really search about this kind of music, you will be amazed by what great stuff are completely unknown.

My US cult metal shopping list is looking like this:

Manilla Road - The Deluge
Manilla Road - Open the Gates
Liege Lord - Master Control
Omen - Warning of Danger
Goat Horn - Storming the Gates (ok ok so they're from north of the border, sue me :p )
Legend - From the Fjords - what's the verdict then?

Still want to check out:

Heir Apparent and Slauter Xstroyes

:kickass:

I LOVE THAT BAND!!! I'm going to see them for the 3rd and 4th time Sunday, and next Sunday! They're local to Toronto, which is extra fucking cool! Keeley, they have a new EP coming out, it's pretty good :)

Good stuff, but there is other stuff out there worth checking before these.

Legend - From the Fjords - what's the verdict then?

What verdict?

Both Erik and Demilich got this recently, so I was wondering what they thought about it now that they might have had a chance to spin it a few times.

EDIT: I see Demilich's LP is in transit. :)

Oh, I've had it for a while.

It's quality stuff. I recommend it no doubt!

10/10, eh? I'd have to think about that. Off the top of my head that I know you don't have would be the DARK QUARTERER - S/T. Amazing album... far superior to the LEGEND(US)

I have to mention 2 bands that are totally non cult or old, but totally in the us metal vein (especially the Seattle scene), and also they have their forums in the UM
Ion Vein: I first heard these guys in a Queensryche tribute album, they covered "Take Hold Of The Flame", and i purchased their first album, "Beyond Tomorrow". This was more prog metal than power (but non cheesy prog) but it was relaly really good. Their second album "Reigning Memories" was a shock to me. With influences from Queensryche, Fates Warning, Lethal, Crimson Glory etc they created a power metal masterpiece. All power metal fans should listen to this album, it has the best riffs written in the genre since .. "Into The Mirror Black" maybe (no joking). And the vocals are so "OMG" and emotional.
Katagory V: When i read in www.metal-treasures.at about their debut "Present Day" i started searching everywhere for it. Luckily i found it in a metal store here, although it was self financed. Its an AMAZING piece of us metal, more old school than "modern" with influences from Queensryche, Savatage, Lethal, Crimson Glory (the usual suspects that influence every serious u.s power metal band), Fates Warning (Arch Era, and a little bit from "No Exit) Heir Apparent, even Candlemass! Some years after it , i found their second album "A New Breed Of Rebellion" in the same store, and it was a step forward, more serious, more technical, less catchy and with a real musical depth. Fantastic album.
These 2 bands are for me the greatest inheritors of the rich us metal treasure, and they keep that special feeling alive today.

I'm not impressed with ION VEIN. I've only seen them live, haven't actually sat down to listen to any of their music. The again.. I only like the first QUEENSRYCHE, the first 2 CRIMSON GLORYs, and tolerate the first LETHAL.

I haven't heard: Katagory V

Well, i understand completely why you are not impressed with Ion Vein, since that your tastes seem to be totally old school-ish. I love the first 2 Crimson Glory albums, and i liked "Astronomica". I consider "Programmed" by Lethal to be a masterpiece, totally Queensryche-ish, but excellent.
I think you are gonna like very much Katagory V's "Present Day".
