"Cult" u.s. metal

I see no mention of Steel Prophet in this thread. Shame on you all!

And they even have a new forum here on UM!

I'm finally checking giving the newest Brocas Helm album another chance and I must retract my previous "meh" attitude towards it and say that it KICKS ASS!

A wise decision. :p

Helstar: Another great band from Texas.....James Rivera is one of the greatest metal legends

I'm not getting this big hoopla about Rivera. "one of the greatest metal legends"?

Liege Lord. Another definition of power metal. Their first album "Freedom's Rise" is outstanding heavy metal with powerfull tunes and a slight epic atmosphere. Their second "Burn To My touch" is their least good - great though and more "thrashy", but just a bridge to their masterpiece : "MASTER CONTROL" - a pinnacle of power/speed metal the way it should be : full of energy, powerfull, dynamic, and RAW.

Master Control = :kickass:

Comeau's vocals on Master Control >>>>>>>>> Rivera's vocals

So why the heck isn't Joe Comeau considered a metal legend?

Anyway, I can't believe Master Control is selling on eBay for $75 right now. :(

I don't want to compare these two, but Rivera has simply done more things than Comeau, more important things too. Comeau just sang in one Liege Lord album, and played some guitar for Overkill. If Helstar is considered a legendary band (and it is considered, and it is a legendary band) then their singer (and founding member) is also a legend (maybe i should have said "one of the greatest u.s. metal legends" in the thing you quoted, to be more specific). Apart from that, the guy has also sung in Destiny's End, and sings in Viciours Rumors now (so he is now a member of 2 classic u.s. power metal bands, and not 1 like before, Seven Witches don't count for various reasons). He is not just a singer, he is a driving force behind this scene (a scene that never really succeeded on being even a little bit popular among metalheads), encouraging other metal musicians and always having a thirst to play THIS kind of metal in dark times for the genre. I know that you don't like his voice that much, but i find it outstanding and one of the most METAL voices i have ever heard: Totally characteristic, atmospheric, powerful, with breathtaking high pitched vocals.

Didnt see them mentioned yet, but the U.S. LETHAL are really fantastic. "Programmed" is a great album. And even though they are not American, I thought I should mention Stormwitch in this thread, as they also rule immensely. "Walpurgis Night" and "Tales of Terror" are the ones Im most familiar with. And of course, Heir Apparents "Graceful Inheritance", which was mentioned but I've been enjoying that more recently as well.

Damn. I've learned a lot from this thread.

But I thought this was the one that convinced me to check out Slough Feg / HoM also. I wonder where that one went?
