I had read something similar before, at least suggested if not research (and not sure if it was the thing referenced early in the article), that beyond 125-130 IQ, political aspirants and other aspiring leaders were going to have significant difficulty connecting with potential followers, due to the significant cognitive distance. This is the first research I've seen to suggest something similar, and the effect starts even earlier.
IQ positively correlated with ratings of leader effectiveness, strategy formation, vision and several other characteristics—up to a point. The ratings peaked at an IQ of around 120, which is higher than roughly 80 percent of office workers. Beyond that, the ratings declined.
