To me they are nowhere near, but others could have a different understanding of the genre... I just know mines the generally accepted one

This has nothing to do with the thread but do any of you know the band Penumbra ? it's a french band, their new album (the last bewitchement) has been produced by terje refnes the productor of tristania. Anyway it has a lots of common points with tristania and other band with female vocals but it has a strong death voice and great orchestral arrangements. Try to download "Neutral" for example on audigalaxy and tell me what you think

Before Stargate all I have is Fjord.. (??) the second one anyway Which I don't like because you just kind of get lost in it... 2 tracks of 20+ minutes with very little variation...thats why I didn't like it But some of the other early ones I may prefer.

Oh yeah, he's great I just don't like his earlier stuff as much as his later (that said I do still listen to the early album I have quite a bit )

I'm surprized that no-one's mentioned Dead Can Dance yet in this thread... They're surely the originators of this neo-classical style that Die Verbannte Kinder Eva's, Dargaard etc. play.
Every DCD album after the self-titled and before "Spiritchaser" is excellent; owning "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun" is obligatory for anyone interested in the genre.

I'll check it out... Probably download songs instead of reading reviews. Some people give bad reviews to CDs that I like. So, I'll just download some songs.

I try and say what the music is like rather than saying if I like it But I don't blame you Listening is definitely better than reading a review

I finally joined cause I found one of these bands I REALLY like, Darkseed, anyone heard of em? Im not sure if their dark wave gothic, but thers stuffs all mid-paced with lots of synths with vocals and atmosphere the likes of Amorphis (new).

But I really love what im hearing from their newest cd.
