MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message on the group's official message board:

"Droogies!

"Tonight I had the honor and priveledge to host a special [MTV2 'Headbanger's Ball'] tribute to the life of Darrel 'Dimebag' Abbott.

"I went out to NYC Thursday at 9:30 PM on a redeye to do this, and during the period since then, I have had a good amount of time to reflect on my own life.

"I realized how fortunate I am, and have been to have met some of you, and in some cases become friends with many of you.

"What is bothering me is the people who I have not been able to meet, or worse, have met and ended up not being friends with. There are many.

"I would like to, in honor of Darrel's life, learn from him and how many friends he apparently had made.

"Over my career I have a lot of cleaning up to do on my side of the street as well as letting things go, for once and for all; I need to apologize to many people and also to forgive and quit holding grudges.

"Having said that, if there is something I did to you or someone you know, please give me the opportunity to make this right.

"To SLAYER and METALLICA: I am sorry for whatever I may have done in the past and wish to make it right, to put it behind us. Please let me know how and when we can talk this out.

"To previous bandmembers and managers: I say the same to you.

"To all the MEGADETH/METALLICA fans: from this day forward, there will never be another unkind word from my mouth perpetuating this silly 22-year-old feud.

"And to heavy metal fans around the world: I am going to emulate Dimebag by being more like him; more friendly, and more interested in your lives too, I promise.

"I am grateful to have been asked to come in this hour of darkness to represent us all as we come together and heal as a worldwide music community, and I would be a fraud if I didn't say I need to do more to better represent.

"Thank you in advance for your forgiveness and for your support."

Dave Mustaine has apologized to former band members, Slayer, and Metallica. WOW! I think this is a great thing to do and I just cannot wait to see the out come of it.

If such a tragedy can finaly create some sort of unity amongst the metal community (obvious elitist fuckheads excluded), than it can clearly do some good.

How old is Mustaine? Shouldn't he have realised all this 15 years or so ago? I thought he was a Christian anyway, shouldn't he be forgiving Lars Ulrich on THAT basis?
Meh, Megadeth and Dave Mustaine bore me now with all the bible bashing and self righteousness.

Hooray for tight-knit intarweb clubs for people who only listen to music as a chance to socialize with others!

Unlike the rest of you who have made fun of this, I think this is a great thing. Dave usually gets a bad rap, but I know he can't be a bad guy. If Dave could only talk things out with his RIP bandmates and get them all back together.

i like megadeth, but this terrible thing had to happen for dave to do this? and like tanith said: "And to heavy metal fans around the world: I am going to emulate Dimebag by being more like him; more friendly, and more interested in your lives too, I promise."

i don't know how much credit i can give him for saying that?

or maybe i'm just pissed because i was on my way to see megadeth a few weeks ago, it was night time, and raining, and my friend's windshield wipers stopped working, so we had to get towed, and come home, and miss the show. yeah i was pretty pissed.

Everyone's blowing the Dimebag thing out of proportion. I'm sure he was a nice guy, I know he was a good and inspirational musician, and i'm saddened a great deal by his death, but ffs, now that he's dead we've got other musicians saying "oh, I want to be like Dimebag!", every forum is littered with countless threads about his death (can we please merge all these threads?) and we've got folks lamenting left right and centre. He's become a matyr and and its stupid. If I was a famous musician and I got shot, I sure as hell wouldn't want countless people going on about how great a guy I was for hours on end. Can we please cut the crap?

That's what I said.

John Lennon's death was before me, so what was that like? Was it overblown or whatnot?

If anything, DBD should get the Lennon treatment and not the Cobain treatment.

For the record, I appreciate Dave's words.

Anybody who has some ridiculous bullshit to say against a guy putting himself out there and asking for forgiveness like that... should emulate Dimebag by getting shot in the head.

Cheers Dave. You're a better man than Lars.

EDIT: And I don't even like Megadeth.

as a long time hater of mustaine (ask Mr Toby, Morbid Corpse and Dantera) this actually impresses me that he can move past previous mistakes and grievences.
his respect as a person has moved up a notch from this much> < to this much> <

I don't know...this seems to me like just another way of Mustaine trying to get more attention for himself in an attempt to exploit Darrel's passing. I could be wrong.

Why? Who cares? It's funny reading him talk shit all the time anyway. As far as I know all Kerry King said was that the new Megadeth album is "junk" - and it is, so what's the problem (Slayers last few releases have been pretty junk too mind you).
Dave should kick Lars ass, and Kerry should kick Dave's ass, then everyone here would have some entertainment.
