its an interface that is meant to work with protools. go on the digidesign website and read about it. there is all the information you will need on it. it has two preamps it connects to the computer via usb. as kazrog said, its the least expensive way to get into protools meaning it includes protools software and the mbox(interface) to get audio onto the computer. it is pretty basic as far as interfaces go. check out digidesign.com. good luck man.

ah ok ( how stupid of me that i forgot the digidesin website)

anyway thx

you guys are never gonna believe this but my mom told me ( yeah she told me just these days not before ) my uncle had a big recording studio so i thought it was just al small. fucking helll we went to take a look and it's almost as big as Andy Sneap's his studio !! i made pictures but i forgot the usb cable ( i am at my moms right now ) sunday i will be back.

ps: he is gonna give me all kinds of recording tips these weeks and this is what he said when we left:

i only use * forgot the name of the recording software * and we use pro tools.
we also have cubase but that software can kiss my ass :D !

i will post the pic's in a new topic but hell :| my uncle had soo many rack stuff !! i just wanted to steal it.

i use pro tools le (just got 6.7). but i started out with cubase and its actually pretty awesome software. i used nuendo for a while and liked that alot too.

now i use Nuendo 3 to record my song, pretty sweet software !! but i think i would like pro tools better cause the interface of nuendo looks so fancy and stuff, that starting it up and running it already uses allot of your pc. pro tools looks verry ugly, and that's good \m/

haha, I agree with that Mendel. I only started using ProTools a few days ago, but the artificial track limits shit me to no end. I can't believe how DigiDesign can be such assholes. When we pay in excess of a grand and a half here for a Digi 002 rack, we're still limited to 32 tracks.

I'm really reconsidering my plans to get PT back home because of this, especially with M-powered not opening HD or LE sessions. Might just stick with trusty Cubase.

i think using digidesign hardware with nuendo or cubase is quite good ( never tried it YET )

but i was wondering, what kind of good hardware is there besides digidesign's Mbox. etc.

I was actually thinking this earlier today, but even more than the track limitations or the plugin processing system, does it bother anyone else that there is like no middle ground between an LE and an HD system. I mean not everyone can afford HD systems, but on the other hand, not everyone's recording projects can be done solely within the confines of an LE system. Anyone else agree aobut this?

Oh and Moonlapse, it sucked much more back in 2001 when the track count was limited to 24 :(

Heaps of praise of the E-MU 1820M. It enabled me to ditch my hardware deck (Mackie 1402) and go completely virtual.

Host is Sonar 4.02 Producer - I know it too well to use anything else. I've tried Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, etc. Logic was by FAR the most alien thing I have ever tried to use in my life. I think Sonar just completely RULES because it has the best MIDI support out of all of them, and the audio engine is near flawless. They outdid themselves with the dynamic busses, completely unlimited, and can be routed in any way you can imagine.

i've looking trough the sites and m audio looks pretty impressive.
but what do i need for a start and not TOO expensive. i think the most of u know hwat im using ( podxt etc drumkit from hell 2 ). but what i also was wondering and couldnt find on the site:

is it possible to use m-audio hardware on other DAW then Pro Tools ?

I have to say the more I use ProTools at the place I study at, the more accustomed I get to it and it starts to seem more flexible and streamlined than Cubase.

And the more I use Cubase, the less I like it and the more I want Pro Tools or Digital Performer... (all in good time, my precious... all in good time)

so pro tools is the best thing for recording ? . . .ffs im getting confused.

Not for YOU, you really should focus on your needs and what you already know instead of trying to find what is the best thing since it's all very subjective. Pro Tools is probably the best for audio recording and pro mixing, but it's not what you're gonna do (Drumkit From Hell is MIDI), at least for the moment. To record your pod in your computer, use the USB cable, and to use DFH use whatever sound card you already have (you don't care about the latency since I guess you won't play it live anyway), keep it simple...
