Yeah, i've completely come to the conclusion that music bands, any bands are simply unpredictable. A new record by any band could be a bombastic record, or could be medium record, or sometimes just failure. So only clever lucky musicians are usually the ones that survive, and of course peoples personal preferances have a say sometimes. About recycled riffs, all bands use them, Metallica stole riffs from Dokken and Black Sabbath. I can hear a Deep purple influence in Kirks playing on Death Magnetic.

So because Megadeth makes better commercialized metal, that makes them comparable to a band that's actually made revolutionary, truly unique metal?

Just because a band can write decent-to-good music for longer does not make them better than a band that wrote a few utterly brilliant albums. That's like saying Motorhead is better than Black Sabbath because Motorhead is currently writing better music than Sabbath is.

They both started around the same time
They are both from the same area
They are both still making music

I do agree Rust In Peace is a hall of fame caliber album for sure. just not better than Ride The Lightning and MoTP.

Dave Mustaine is a better rhythm guitarist than James Hetfield.
Marty Friedman is a better lead guitarist than Kirk Hammett (not that Kirk Hammett was very good in the first place...).
David Eliefson is at least equal to Cliff Burton, martyr effect aside.
A monkey could drum better than Lars Ulrich.
