Pardon my even greater ignorance, but I've never even heard any of Blaze's stuff (not even the Iron Maiden stuff). Now I really don't like power metal, so am I missing anything at all?

His solo stuff ("Silicon Messiah") isn't too bad, but it still kind of sucks.
His workk with Maiden, however, was the epitome of terrible. The prime example of a band suffering horrendously from a member's departure, Blaze wasn't fit to be within 100 miles of Dickinson's castle, much less sit in his throne.

Yes the Silicon Messiah cd is "ok", its nothing to bother trying to find at the store. Everything else by Blaze sucks more than a vacuum cleaner.

I agree totally. Janick drags that band down because he thinks every solo is supposed to be a competition. He doesn't understand dynamics like Smith and Murray who have truly amazing chemistry.

I thought we were comparing the two. Death is more technical, but you just can't beat Opeth for mood and guitar work. Both are great though.
