Waited in line with me ma on Friday (damn I'm cool), read it the next day. Not amazing, but very good. Wraps things up quite nicely. Only a few unresolved issues really.

Someone who has read it chime in so we can discuss the greater details of a very fine series in literature. Hold me. Etc.

I haven't read these books but I have it on good authority that the author isn't a very adept writer and after seeing the movies, I'd say the plot and characters are none too interesting either.

What keeps people reading these, adults in particular? Isn't it the literary equivalent of TV? Just simple shit you can wade through without a thought in your head?

hype and popularity? of course, I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies, so I can't really make an informed opinion

No. She is an amazingly clever writer. Great characters as well. Her and Salman Rushdie are the only living authors worth reading as far as I'm concerned.

This thread is 1.21 gigawatts gayer than I predicted.

He lives, then he dies, hangs with that one guy who died in the last book for a while, then lives again for atleast 19 years.

are you on crack dude

harry potter is awesome insofar as it gets kids to read and opens up the speculative fiction genre to a much broader audience, but none of those books will ever be anything more than enjoyable fluff with a very good portrayal of adolescence.

Read it. Satisfied for the most part.

I always knew that Snape is not evil at all, i mean he just could not be evil. Also he is now officially the best H.P. character ever (well he was always, it just became official). Loved the fact that Dumbledore was not that PERFECT as we thought he was. The deaths (well the persons who died) were pretty unpredictable, and that's what made them actually sad, liked that too. Frankly, before i read it, i was expecting some mambo jambo fight between Gryffindor and Slytherin (the wizards) but maybe i was hoping for too much. I want to see the next movie adaptations right now. To those who try to judge the "literal value" of the book - goodnight and good luck.
