I figured you guys would appreciate this... One of the most requested drum sounds I've gotten from hard rock bands is the DEFTONES sound. So for snare5, I studied the deftones snare from White Pony very specifically and captured what I believe is a very similar sound. Here is a demo of snare5 and kick1, followed by the same drum loop without the samples:

www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo/deftonessnarekick.mp3

We also have 4 discs that had a bit of print fade that are going for 20 bucks off plus free shipping... but for the Sneap guys, I'll leave the link up even after the 4 sell out and let the offer stand for a day or so, just make sure you say SNEAP FORUM in the "where did you hear about us" section of the order form!

These are the same samples that are on the current DVD, with no additional processing. One of my clients did this demo for me. He said the kick is mixed in tiny bit with the real kick, just a tad, snare is 100% replaced. NEITHER sample has any additional processing. He said Dynamic tracking is at 20% on the snare track and is OFF on the kick track.

I'm going to have Joel Adkins play some classic Deftones drum loops tomorrow and replace them with Snare5 and Kick1 (although kick 5 can sound deftonesy too) and I'll post them.

Sounds freaking awsome! Deftones drums are fantastic and I think you nailed the White Pony sound!

Does this Sneap Forum Deal apply to us producer-wannabies in Europe (Sweden) as well?

Im buying your disc ASAP =)

:headbang:

yeah man, since you're on the sneap forum, take advantage of the discount. The sneap team has been quite good to us so I'm always up for giving you guys a break whenever I can. New "deftones" inspired demos coming soon.

No offense to all of you who are buying samples, but with a little bit of work it's not really very hard to record your very own samples that sound every bit as good as these (and I don't mean in the least bit that these drum samples sound bad, because they sound great).

I guess so, but then you need equipment, studio time, know-how, etc. These sample are so ready-to-use that it´s almost a shame. I mean, you get the DVD and the quest for acoustic drum samples just disappears from your life. I don´t even open threads on this forum about drum samples anymore, it has everything. Tons of snares and kicks, different reverbs, variations, dynamics... Now I´m just waiting for the crash and hats samples to never worry about drums in my life again. :)

@Slate:
Are those Z1?

co, thanks man! yeah they are Z1 with some Lexicon chamber reverb. I bet if I he used the Z2 it would have been even more authentic because Terry Date (deftones mixer) uses a lot of ambience on his drums.

I've had the slate drums for a while and to be honest they all sound pretty much the same and a bit dated - But i think Steven's production is a bit dated anyway. You can tell he's flushed them through pretty similair gear and treated them all in the same. To me the snares go ...."crack" or "splatt' and thats about it.

I'm sure Steven will disagree with my comments but this is MY OPINION!!

haha!!

someone has bills to pay!...steven??

Holy shit.

I have never felt very good about buying samples, since you can get some very good ones for free and tweak them to hell. And after all, $200 is a big cut in my paycheck. But after listening to Slate drums for a few times and now these deftonesy samples, I'm really starting to consider ordering these puppies.

Abso-fucken-lutely huge sound.
