Deftones Inspired Snare Sample Demo MP3!!

Man, I feel like an idiot for not using snare5 in one of the audio demos already... I'm really loving it. As I write this, Joel is laying down more deftonesy beats and I'll replace with snare5 and post them again soon. Snare5 took the longest to process because I kept comparing to White Pony and had to retweak it like 5 times. But I think where it is now is just about right. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I dont have your samples as of yet Sir Slate but I like your work! Samples sound great! Im glad we have a little sample boffin around the area :headbang:

Once you have completed your new samples/cymbals etc do you think you may find yourself making samples of manipulated/processed drum sounds/other instruments, such as sub drops, Wherever I May Roam type bass cracks and other atmospheric musical additions that we may drop into our mixes? Like an effects pack :loco: I need a drink!

Hopefully not considered a hijack but here's a mix I did with these exact same drum samples in hopes to get a Deftones White Pony like sound. By far my favorite drum tone of all time, particularly Digital Bath. Kick 1 and Snare 5 are certainly the closest sample sounds to mimic that album.

Its just a stock midi file demo from EZ drummer. I setup 4 instances of EZdrummer to control all the room sounds more effectively and replaced the close kick and close snare samples 100% with Slate's samples. The EZ drummer kick and snare can still be heard though the ambient mics though.

These samples are really worth every penny and they work so well in Drumagog its ridiculous. Even ghost notes are triggered accurately for the most part.

That sounds amazing, what did you do with the toms? They sound lush! When you set up 4 EZ's did you mute everything but the room mics for the extra 3?

Shred: nope, you open "groups" of mics per instance

EZD1: Kick / OH / AMB
EZD2: Snare / OH / AMB
EZD3: Toms / OH / AMB
EZD4: Hat / OH / AMB

That way you can control the overhead/ambience for each instrument better. I actually only did this with DFHS, but in EZDrummer it should work the same way.

Yep, that's exactly how I set it up. This way I can high pass the cymbals without high passing the ambient kick drum sound.

Splat I've tried for two straight nights (for hours) trying to get close to the sound you've come up with using slate and ezdrummer. Is there any chance you can fill me in on how you get that sound? I've tried everything!!

Jauernis, what are you using to trigger the samples? I find the most common issue that people have who can't get the samples to sound aggressive is having Drumagog's dynamic tracking too high or not having the source snare to trigger the CRACKS.

That really sounds fantastic!:worship:

Could you elaborate a little on how you work with 4 instances of ezdrummer? Is it possible to assign them to one midi track? how does your computer handle 4 instances of ezdrummer? Mine gave up when I opened the second instance...
Did you eq and compress those drums any further or are those just the raw sounds?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would kill to have my drums to sound like yours!

I am using Drumagog. But not adjusting the settings at all. I usually mute all the other samples and leave it on for example snare crack. Do you have a basic description of the settings I should be using? thanks slate!

Well, by not changing anything is a big problem right there! By default the dynamics are set at 100% which mean a lot of times you won't feel the full effect of the samples because drumagog is focusing so much on matching the exact levels of the source file being sampled over. Try bringing the dynamic tracking down to about 20-40% and you'll hear a noticable change in sound. Hell, if you only wanted to hear the samples in robotic fashion, keep the blend at 100% and disable the dynamic tracking check box on the front pane.

I just mixed a metal record (with snare5 actually, the original drum was an f'ing piccolo) and I found that the track worked best with dynamic tracking off. Then you'll get the full meat of the hit as Ice Man said. For most other stuff like rock and hard rock, the 20-40% mark is pretty good.

I notice it gets a shit load louder! Ill have to turn it down on all my mixes, ive kept it as 100% all the time up till now :p We love more meat on our drums! :)

Any chance I could pick your brain for your tom sample gate settings? I can't get the sustain to not be so overwhelming without sounding choked. Also, any news on the update?
