Deliverance and Damnation

Do you think they would be more highly respected as one cohesive album?

Seperate.

As much as I enjoy Opeth's dynamics, it is very nice to put a record on and just mellow out without being prepared for a demon roaring in your ear in about 30 secs. I think it was a good call to split up the material; I just cant fathom Hope Leaves coming after Wreath.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...Right after I made this poll I realized there are probably only a few people who would vote for a combination...oh well haha.

Yet the thought did occur to me more than one for some reason, although a combination would probably sound like a BWP redux or something.

I think them seperately is the way it needs to be.

For the progression of the band.

For the progression of the music.

For the cohesiveness of the listening.

And a few other reasons im sure...but im too tired to think of them at the moment.

good thread though, i dont recall this has really been talked about in this context before. ;)

Releasing that two albums separately was a great idea, there are some moments in my life when I wanna listen only to Damnation, or maybe only to Deliverance.
and two are better than one :)

So far I agree with everyone, but the only reason I thought up this poll, was because of that other poll going on now with the "less favorite" Opeth album. Seems like D+D have a pretty decent amount of votes in their favor, and it got me thinking why that's the case. I think alot of people dislike damnation because its too light, and deliverence because its too heavy, and not dynamic enough.

I love both albums, and I agree that they should be separate, but I don't know...seems like "Blackwater Park 2" would've made some people happy?

well, i took the question at face value: would the albums be more highly respected (i'm guessing by others, as a whole) if they were one cohesive album. i said i think they would be. definetly. i'm sure it would sound good together. i don't mind, since i enjoy both albums on their own, but, it could work as one..dropping a few songs probably.

Good thoughts...pretty much sums it up. But the mixing of styles on one album is great too. The way they split these is nice though for those specific moods.

Actually, I would have preferred to get the two discs in a 2CD edition, which is the way it was meant to be. But this would be a different question, involving MFN milking the cow as much as possible. I'm sure people wouldn't be complaining about those two CDs that much if they had been released the way they were meant to be.

definitely separately, two different moods. as much as some fans hate Damnation, I hope they do something similar in the future. It was a great Idea IMO

Howdy Marv! Cool you worked it out, this looks like a good board.
