Did anyone watch Ghost Hunters: Live last night?

:cough: metaphysical claims are not in any way shape or form testable according to the scientific method :cough:

And cookie, you don't need evidence to believe in something; logically (for most of us here anyway) of course evidence is needed, especially when making a claim or trying to figure something out. But there are many other people who believe in things that don't make sense (these things may also be contradictory towards other beliefs to boot!); it's part of the whole "leap of faith" idea.

Yes, cookie, the burden of proof lies upon those who believe in irrational things.

Faith is retarded.

Damn you for being more concise than I

That is why they are wrong

Goddamnit man, you have to realize that BELIEFS are DIFFERENT/ON A SEPARATE SYSTEM THAN/INCOMPARABLE to scientific fact. I don't believe that the Earth is the only planet in our solar system that is currently able to sustain life, I KNOW that. I don't believe that caffeine causes increased alertness in people, I KNOW THAT. I don't believe that the ozone layer filters harmful radiation out from the sun's light, I KNOW that.

Yes yes yes, you don't need to lecture us about the varying epistemic realms that fuel the division between our species.

Quickly, to the ontology mobile!

Of course you can believe something. That's obvious. I'm talking about believing in the truth. Let me rephrase the sentence you quoted "You need evidence before you should believe something." Your belief in ghosts is not supported by evidence and that is why it is a false belief.

Haha damn it, I was going to expand upon my previous argument but then I realized a really awful flaw in it.

Anyways - this world can not be explained completely in scientific terms, those who attempt to do so will ultimately fail - just like I am going to if I continue this argument. I should have approached it from a different angle and not backed myself into the corner :p but then again if you don't see where my flaw lies in ... (and it isn't in my beliefs.)

Yeah.

It's funny when someone says something like, "I hate religion", RH will be all "hay everyday at school i droo inverted crosses on my math homework"

First off, the quote was "Inverted plus signs" and it was meant to be a joke adjacent to the "Inverted star of David" joke because like a six pointed star, a plus sign is vertically symetrical. It was meant as an attack on my own intelligence, because often the target of my jokes (Much like the acts of Rodney Dangerfield) is myself.

Secondly, I do hate organized religion.

Thirdly, satanism is technically a philosophy not a religion since thier is no ruling body (Unless were talking about that silly little "church" they have set up. It's this thing people like to do, called free thought. It's the kind of thing religions usually burn people at the stake for.

So when your done licking your cat's asshole, maybe pull the cork out of your ass and let all the shit fall out that you've been accumulating.

To be dangerously on topic: Yes, I did watch some of the show last night. Not the whole thing, I can't imagine why I'd watch a show about people trying to prove that non-existant "energy" or "spirits" exist for 6 hours. Usually I'd blame the whole ball moving thing by editing and what not. Now I am not sure, but I shall find a logical, and most likely obvious, explanation.

You do that kind of thing all the time. I'll be sure to point it out. And don't bullshit.

WTF are you talking about? I don't care about your views on religion. My point was that when someone says something like my example you to try to best them with your "kvlt" nonsense.

And that free thought argument is total bullshit in the modern world (excluding the middle east, obviously)

Actually I think you mean it is an unwarranted belief. A false belief is one that is well... false. How do we know if a belief is false? If it is known to contradict a known fact. I.E. if someone believes the moon to be made of cheese then it is a false belief. The existence of ghosts do not contradict known facts, there is simply a lack of convincing evidence and hence at this point it is an unwarranted belief. Now the belief in ghosts does contradict materialist/naturalist ideologies and obviously one who has such a frame of mind will believe that ghosts do not exist.
