All the different sub-genres that end in '-core' are quite confusing, and I never really understood what they all mean.

It would be good if you could name some of these, and give a brief definition of that type of music!

e.g. Mince Core - *definition of style*

Thanks, this might be quite enducational!

:)

Hardcore - Subgenre of punkrock. Founding bands being Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits, etc. One of my favourite music genres. Not a very technically challenging genre, but the emotions, anger, power, speed and flow makes hardcore being a winner (for me, at least). Quite a few bands add metal and mid-tempo elements to their songs. Key bands: Refused, Raised Fist, Gorilla Biscuits, Straightfaced, Buried Alive, (early) 59 Times The Pain.

Grindcore - Intense, extremely fast music. Noisy as shit. Few melodic elements. Drum machines are often used, as few drummers can manage to play 3589375 BPM. Production is often "trebly" and sharp, and the vocals are often screamy. Lyrics often include gore, twisted humour, generally twisted themes. Songs to check out:

Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Bitch's Handbag Full Of Money
Pig Destroyer - Task Master
Burnt By The Sun - Dracula With Glasses
The Berzerker - Pain (Grindcore with electronical elements)

Mince Core was "invented" by Agathocles, I can tell you that much. Some of their stuff sounds like grindcore though. Anyways, I am unable to explain the music, I wouldn't even be able to explain black metal or death metal, and brutal death metal IS my pond. Try to read a review for one their first albums or download some mp3's.

As for the other -cores (metalcore etc.), I have no idea. I don't like such stuff. :) I just noticed a lot of -cores are very misanthropic or socialist/communist oriented. I don't find that very cool.
