Dimmu Borgir vs Cradle Of Filth

two of the most controversial extreme metal bands, due to their subject matter, their images, and their comparatively huge success.

They are more controversial than Varg Vikernes, who has actually killed a man and has wished death on jews?

Controversial in a different light which he elaborated on.

Whenever Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir are mentioned on a metal forum, it always provokes the same endless cycle of bickering, debate etc. People who hate these bands are seemingly drawn to them, perhaps as much as the fans who like them.

And besides, hardly anyone these days cares that Varg killed Euronymous or said what he said. Even the guys from Mayhem hardly care what he did.

Yes, and what's your point? These bands aren't any more cartoonish than Vital Remains, or anything Glen Benton-related.

Glen Benton is the Homer Simpson of heavy metal.

Seriously, a Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir fan criticizing "cartoonish" musicians ?

I'll let the music speak for itself ...

At least Vital Remains released some descent albums the last decade, while Deicide blow donkeys.

And yes, Glen Benton is the Homer Simpson of heavy metal. Zero intelligence.

I prefer Dimmu Borgir, but I don't dislike COF so much.

Re-read my post. It will make more sense when you understand it.

And the music certainly speaks for itself. Even both bands' material, from arguably their weakest albums, is still better than Vital Remains.

And Glen Benton isn't the Homer Simpson of heavy metal?

D'oh!

They're hard to compare since they don't sound alike at all. Dimmu Borgir is a dumber name though. Who names their serious metal band after a volcanic rock formation in Iceland?

a volcanic rock formation with a folk legend about it being a gateway to hell. :tickled:

I was never able to get into Cradle of Filth, and I attribute that to Dani Filth's vocals. That said the only Dimmu Borgir album I really enjoy is Death Cult Armageddon which I'm sure will earn me some scorn but I love the production on it. Seriously if there is ever a dark fantasy movie, Death Cult Armageddon should be the soundtrack for it. I'm actually seeing Dimmu live on the 26th but I'm really only going because Enslaved is playing.
