Dimmu Borgir's re-recording of "Stormblåst"

I never really dug the original Stormblast, but it was the best of their output I heard. Still, this band is dumb.

Holy crap, where did the atmosphere go? This blows, but hey, if anyone were to ruin a classic black metal recoring, it had to be Dimmu Bogir. :ill:

And the best tracks are Stormblåst and Antikrist.

well just as an example...I heard a while back that there was a band going out on tour (Opeth?? Blind Guardian???) and the fans were all agitated because they were not going to play any of their material recorded for a previous label....the reason being that the previous label had also signed a music publishing deal with the band, and so therefore owned the music.

Max's Review:

Why the fuck did you have to do this, Dimmu Borgir? What the fuck were you thinking. Why would you do that to Alt Lys Har Svunnet Hen? You took out the atmosphere, the fucking intro to the album that made the listener realize that something amazing was coming up. Why? You made everything faster, you fucked up the riffs, you got rid of the clean guitars, you fucked up the vocal arrangements.... YOU TOOK THE FUCKING BREAKDOWN IN "When the Soul Goes to Hell" (I cannot be bothered to type that shit now) AND YOU RUINED IT. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? WHY? IT GAVE ME CHILLS AND NOW IT MAKES ME WANT TO SHIT ON YOU. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO STORMBLASTTTTTTTTTTT? THAT RIFF WAS COOL BUT IT'S NOT STORMBLAST!

I actually fucking thought that you could pull this off. I thought it could still have atmosphere.. but you just fucking brutalized it and I officially revoke any faith that I may have had left in Dimmu Borgir. This is not acceptable, fuck you guys.

R.I.P Stormblåst 1996-2005
Now a generation of stupid assholes is going to know Stormblast like this, fuck you.

if nuclear blast had any balls they'd put this in their 4 page kerranggg!!! ad for this re-release.

I've now listened this many times and I must say, that afterall, fuck these songs are AMAZING!!! Damn DB could write songs those days, I like this version also, some songs are better some are worser, but overall I think this is very good release when we get the full-lenght versions of the songs on real album (not cutted). I'm really glad, they did this, altough many other will disagree. Just listen the songs, not the newer production, they're amazing and with stronger guitarsound you can now hear everything. Too bad the drums somewhat sucks and I'm drunk...

Must be why you use words like "worser" and are wrong. :Smug:

Ok, you drop me there, wht do you mean?

I like how some of the songs you can hear songs better, but the overall feeling of the original records is somewhat lost.

This is one of those issues that just make me shake my head. Who the fuck cares? Queensryche is doing "Operation: Mindcrime II". Will I ever hear it? Nope. Do I fucking care? Nope.

If your a fan of the original recording, why waste your time with this? I don't know why anyone would think this CD would stay true to its roots. What you're getting here is the musical perspective of Dimmu Borgir 2005. What appealed to them back in 1996 doesn't appeal to them now, and that's going to be reflected in this recording. They've evolved, matured, or turned to shit (depending on your perspective). But however you define their metamorphosis, they're not the same band they once were.

If you love the old recording, why let this new recording distract from that?

I don't really care, but DB's motives are plain as day. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So what? Is it so bad of them to try to make a living out of their music? We all know how shitty the music business is and I think it's their right to re-record the album so they can make a few more $ from their compositions. How would you like it if someone made money from your work and you didn't see a cent of it? Some (Erik comes to mind) say that music shouldn't be made with making money in mind. I think that is just stupid and silly talk. How are they supposed to stay creative if they have to take sidejobs just to be able to pay the rent? (which a lot of "big" bands still have to).

If you don't like the new version, fine, stick to the old one. Me, I like both versions and think the new one sounds fantastic.
