I picked it up today. Its definately more agressive than Puritanical...that combined with renewed corpse-paint-and-spikes image as well as two tracks in Norwegian seems to signify that they might be wanting to attract back the "true" black metal fans that thought Puritanical sucked cause it wasnt "grim" or some shit like that. Theres still orchestration...its not as heavily laid on as on PEM tho (aside from two tracks which almost sound like The Odyssey Black Metal ;)). I don't think it'll wind up living up to PEM, but overall...still very good and miles beyond any other BM band out there (which is why I listen to them hehe).

i got that a few days ago and i think it's great, though not nearly as good as PEM. I think that's a pretty fair description of it, though i think that on the second track the orchestration is pretty prominant (at least in the beginning).

Dimmu Borgir is pretty damn good. I'll order the digipack version from theendrecords.com once it becomes available. I can't believe the new Iron Maiden is 15 bucks on there!! wtf.. theendrecords.com is always 12 or 13.

Heh, I think it is much better than Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (PEM). PEM is a great album but it gets rather repetitive quickly. With Death Cult Armageddon (DCA) there is much more variety and more complex song-writing. I think it is their best album to date.

Well, since i heard a little audio/video clip on the TV commercial here in Norway(Yeah, a commercial dammit, Norway`s SO cool, it is said that it is the very first "real" metal TV commercial EVER!!)i just HAD to hear the rest, so i went to Dimmu`s homepage and got to hear the entire song, Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. It rocked as hell! One of the best songs i`ve heard all year, i have also heard some of the song "Vredesbyrd", and will get the album as soon as possible!

Nonono, Emperor is FAR superior to Dimmu. If you haven't, check out their album Prometheus... arguably the greatest combination of the symphonic and the chaotic.

Emperor is an amazing band just as Dimmu Borgir are. I prefer Dimmu Borgir over Emperor but I think Emperor are just as good as far as musicianship goes. It is because of Emperor you have a band like Dimmu Borgir around. Emperor was one of the first bands to use good production on an album like Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk.

Dimmu Borgir is a lot of keyboard-heavy than Emperor (that is why I prefer Dimmu Borgir) but Emperor are just as mesmerizing.

Produced Black Metal = :D

BTW, you guys are some of the (very) few people I've talked to who like Dimmu better than Emperor. I'm not criticizing you or anything, I just find it interesting. ;)

I've heard Emperor and I still think Dimmu are better :p

Anthems to the welkin at dusk and In The Nightside Eclipse are far better than any Dimmu release . I thought it was obvious

By the way , the production is supposed to FIT the music . Don't forget it :)

Emperor does have good production these days. But remember, even dimmu had shitty production on "for all tid". In fact, it renders that album almost completely unlistenable.
