Do hair color and make up make a better band?

Hair color and make up does not make a band better. Take Strapping Young Lad. Hehe... That band is great music to mosh to and always gets me into a good mood. If you don't know what he looks like, then check him out.

I would like to know everyone's opinions on the matter. I personally think that hair and makeup may add a certain feel to a band, but it doesn't necessarily make them better.

Make-up is a gimmick. Long hair does not make you any more metal or help you play music better, either. If Opeth's members cut their hair, why would it matter? I don't care if they do. I just recently cut all my hair off. This doesn't mean I am going to throw out my Opeth cds and start listening to alternative music. I have a beard and don't dress up all nice, but I listen to classical music and jazz just as much as I listen to metal; oh no, I wear sandals and completely despise the Grateful Dead! There must be something wrong with me because I don't fall into musical genre appearance requirements.

DEFINATLEY NOT!!! first of all, the makeup and stuff is all just an image thing, it has nothing to do with how they write their music. i honeslty dont like ti much when bands wear make up and funny cloths, but it wont make a difference to me if the music is good.

Okay, before I saw Mikael and the band, I thought that they would look like Manson, Borgir, or Filth. Then when I saw some pic's online, I thought that they were fake. Then when I got BWP I saw them in the album... I was so amazed, because Mikael, Peter and every other member (past and present) have looked like hippees. If they played what their image is, then EVERY album would be Damnation-style or sound like Porcupine Tree.
I would like to say that looks do not influence a band at all. Looks might influence their fans' attitudes. :-/

I think that make up does not make a bands music any better..The glam bands from the 80's used up half of the worlds hairspray and lipstick and they still sucked..
I hate glam..

Um, the blatently obvious answer to the question is, quite simply put... no.

If bands actually WANT their make-up done for photo's and such, then so be it, doesn't make them suck any worse, or play any better.

Make up and hair color have nothing to do with a band being good. Opeth is obviously a band that doesn't care too highly about image. They focus on music because music is what's really important.
