Do you think Deliverence will sell over 100,000?

Yeah, I can't believe how popular they've become since I first heard them. I've never heard sales figures for their other albums (I remember reading an interview with mikael and he didn't know :)). I think it's really a good thing, though. So many people who were just metalheads before are now seeking good music beyond metal. I've always had fairly diverse tastes, but I personally started listening to Porcupine Tree (which I really like; esp. In Absentia) after hearing of Steve's involvement in BWP. Also I've checked out camel, which mikael totes as his foremost influence, though I was only impressed with a couple albums. Its cool when non-metal people discover Opeth too!

How the hell was Black Water Park mainstream? Play that album to any member of the public and they will run straight for the hill? I think people are becoming paranoid of bands "selling out".

EXACTLY. I think Opeth's somewhat more accessible elements drive this fear that soon Britney will be gyrating to Demon of the Fall (gyrating in agony would be okay, of course).

I think Deliverance will scare more people than BWP did, but I also think that it'll sell..maybe 150,000. The more money that goes to the Opeth boys, the better. I think I'll buy several copies..

I don't think it will sell as well since it's heavier than Blackwater Park, it's not as mainstream an album as BWP was. We'll see though.

Bullshit. It´s about Opeth´s rising recognition that is driving force.
How do you explain that Still Life sold less than BWP, however being "less heavier" to many peoples´ears than BWP. Who knows
they will sell 100, 000 copies but they´ll be bigger band from now on, that´s for sure...:p

Well, it probably will sell over 100,000 copies. Though, if its as heavy as I've heard it is (I refuse to download it, I want to wait for the day when it comes through the letterbox) I have a feeling people will be slightly put off.

What they fuck? Download it already. You can buy a copy too when it comes out.

Well, BWP does seem to have the best chance of being liked by random people who I force to listen, over the other albums. Deliverance sounds like it's both very weird AND very brutal in parts, which usually ends up being the sort of thing an unaquainted person has to listen to many times to really like.
