Does anyone sing anymore?

I have to tell ya' Listening to all this screaming crap is boring and I find it completely talentless. I think Andy would agree with me saying that music has degenerated into complete shit.

What happened to all the real singers?

It's a good question. I guess it's all a confidence thing. People who can get up and scream on stage often cringe if asked to sing, even when they might actually be fully capable of doing it.

I am growing weary of drop C# and guys screaming cookie monster vocals with unintelligible lyrics. Not that they are scholars lyrically anyways, probably singing about some teenage angst or some other "Oh poor me" dilemma..

I am glad to hear this. I was actually pleasantly refreshed by the Dio tribute stuff this board put together, it gave me hope!

OT: I compose and record metal music myself (on a crappy hobby basis) and although I can sing I do feel that screaming suits my music better. That's an explanation why there's no singing on my songs. It's all about the song man.

I'm actually learning it, started a year ago slowly. Still not "good" at it but with more work it can be decent enough. I understood I missed good singing bands when I discovered all my favourite bands include clean singing, and my favourite artists are all absolute awesome singers, including Peter Tagtgren and Devin Townsend. EDIT : oh and since i'm listening to Tool at the moment, Maynard too.

I am with you. My band just switched to all clean vocals and I honestly couldn't be happier. Its definitely harder to make clean vocals work with some metal stuff, but when it works its the bomb. It seems like it make parts way more interesting to listen to.

But on the flip-side I still love screaming in metal. Some bands I just couldn't see it being any other way.

My drummer and I were talking about that very thing last night. I can growl, but feel like a complete tool if I do so. Consequently, everything I do has "normal" vocals, for better or worse.

They switched from making albums and touring with their bands to... well, making albums and touring with their bands.
