Hey, I bought a CD because some people here said Death is really proggy amazing stuff. I don't agree, they sound more like an early slayer with bad lyrics.

It's ok, kinda silly but it gets the blood going (like slayer), but proggy? I don't see it that much really. Maybe my standards for "proggy" have become higher than average (Opeth has set the bar pretty high).

Let me guess, you bought Scream Bloody Gore.

Go and find The Sound Of Perseverance, Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns, or Human.

The comment about Opeth was not smart.

Speaking of technical Death... Have you checked out Atheist or Martyr yet Satorius?

Yes, it was Scream Bloody Gore.

The other albums sound much better named.

Why was saying that opeth has set the bar high not smart? I don't get it.

I looked for Atheist and Martyr and they were sold out, but I wil do that. I'm assuming all their albums have to be better than this death one, boy it sucks.

Yeah, they used to be a death metal band... really bad. And they progressed over the years into a progressive/technical band.. really intelligent stuff.

I am an avid death fan... but to be honest, Scream Bloody Gore is the worst album in my collection by ANY band.

Steer clear of their early stuff... and get the ones i mentioned...

Steer clear of Atheist's "Peice of Time" too, it's like old slayer.. their other two albums are awesome tho.

Martyr's best album is Warp Zone... amazing technicality and thashiness...

Thanks for you efforts in helping clear my ignorance of such things. I have written down your suggestions and I shall heed them when the opportunity avails itself once again. I may have to order them cuz they are always sold out of this stuff.

later Athiest you may also like

Scream Bloody Gore is a good album including one of the best Death songs, Zombie Ritual.
The lyrics are not silly...that album was created back in 1986,some songs were written in 1984-1985 !
Chuck was 16-19 years old then...what fucking lyrics would you a expect a young person to write back in the decade when this kind of lyrics were infamous ?
In addition, back in these years, noone was paying such an attention to the lyrics so the bands were not working much on them and were writing for everything they wanted.

Get Cynic-focus

My personal favouite death album is Human followed closely by Individual thought patters......

Fantastic guitar work particulaly by laroque on Individual...

also the drums on Human are by far the best on any death album IMO......Sean Reinart is a king!!!!!

Oh and is that you Stinkfist from the Kerrang message board....if so HI!

I found the Sounds Of Perseverance sounded very sterile. The music is just amazing, mindblowing.. But it felt unemotional, and unmoving in a similar way to Metallica's ...And Justice For All. That's just an example though, seeing those two albums are like 12 years apart.

I can't really get into death... But I'll keep gicing them a listen now and then, and eventually, it will click...

Satori, go buy Human, The Sound of Perseverance, Individual thought Patterns, and Symbolic by Death. 4 of the best metal albums EVER in my opinion.
