Does Norway produce any well known Metal bands other than Black Metal bands?

would you consider viking metal seperate or just a seperate style of black metal? i tend to consider them seperate, but some dont

in any case. i hope so! im going there in the next couple months and i wanna see some DM!!!

They produce some death metal, but not much (Extol, Blood Red Throne...).

I don't really care for most of their black metal, but I like Norway's "non-black metal" stuff: Green Carnation's first 2 albums and anything by The 3rd and the Mortal.

i was just gonna mention extol and blood red throne! another inportant, non BM band from norway would be Einherjer

Profånity, I'm going to make a list over all Norwegian extreme metal bands for you, with key releases and lots of extra shit thrown in. It's going to take some time, so a bit of patience is needed. Here are some good non black metal bands from Norway (some of them are on the borderline to black, but they are rather experimental):

The 3rd & The Mortal
Extol
Green Carnation
In The Woods
The Apparatus
Chton
Myrkskog
Blood Red Throne
Asmegin
Ulver (except Nattens Madrigal and Bergtatt)
Solefald
Manes (their earliest work is black-ish, though)
Dødheimsgard (cannot really be labelled under black metal)
Kovenant (their later work)
Atrox
Einherjer
Ulvhedin
Enslaved (their later work)
Amulet (hardcore)

and....

Yeah, I was pondering to mention Manes and Ulver too, but in the end I didn't. It's not metal anymore. Also, I just remembered 2 more bands from Norway: Winds (good music but I don't like the vocals) and Bel Canto :-)

Ah, yes, tis true that Ulver isn't metal anymore. I forgot and just wrote a list over good Norwegian bands. And I should of course have included Winds, they are rather good. Bel Canto.. Not exactly my cup of tea, but they have quite a large following in Norway.

Edit: Turbonegro  :kickass:

Thank you very much for all that information, I appreciate the time and effort it took you to write that out.

No problem. I'll write a more extensive list later, with all important black metal bands thrown in too. Only because I enjoy the Norwegian scene so much :)

Aeternus: The early stuff is a mix of death/black metal and folk, while the newer stuff is almost exclusively brutal death metal.
