I know there are a few doom fans on this board. Show your face in this thread and list some of your favorite bands. Personally, its my favorite genre and am looking for a couple new bands to check out in the frey. I'll list most of the bands I listen to that fall into the doom/stoner/sludge genre. I'm more into the extreme side of the genre....

Cephalic Carnage - Halls of Amenti (this is a fabulous 19-minute doom song. trust me, you'll dig this. It is NOT CC's usual fast grind. This is pure doom.)

Thanks man! Yes I did mean Void of Silence...thanks for pointing that out. I own Halls of Amenti and I agree, it is awesome. I also own Rune, Clutch, Cult of Luna, Mistress, and Scissorfight, all whic are really good but I missed em'. Ill be sure to check out Fudge Tunnel, Found Dead Hanging, and have been meaning to check out Mindrot for a longass time now. I downloaded Orphaned Land a few months back and it is really good but lacks the production, otherwise it is kickass.

Doom is great. Some of my favorites include Saturnus, Blazing Eternity, Katatonia (BMD/SoD era), Swallow the Sun, Shape of Despair, Evoken, The Prophecy, etc.

Yes, doom is one of my favourite genres but unfortunately I don't have all that many albums yet. I like old Anathema, My Dying Bride, Evoken (yay, I've found allt three albums,) Esoteric, Skepticism, Shape of Despair (a bit,) Unholy (very underrated,) Dolorian, old Katatonia, old Paradise Lost, (again, a bit) Thergothon...

I'm sort of looking for funeral doom that's more on the melancholic side of things. Not quite as oppressive as Esoteric and stuff (though that sort of thing has its place, definitely) but a bit more melodic like Thergothon and Skepticism... (I can't believe I used the words "melodic" and "Thergothon" in the same sentence ) You people seem very knowledgeable. Give me hints.

Another thing. Forest of Shadows haven't been mentioned, but the song I've heard by them ("Under the Dying Sun") is nothing short of breathtaking. I believe they have an album out now on Rage of Achilles.

You'd do well in checking out Unholy. Especially their "Gracefallen" album is vastly underrated, great doom on the verge of being funeral doom, but isn't quite... Anyway, check out a full-length MP3 of the sublime "...Of Tragedy" song here:

I too, love sludge/doom more than anything else. However, everybodies lists here are amazingly thorough. I can only think of Trouble, maybe some crust-rock like amebix, that hasnt been mentioned.

I just discovered stoner/doom myself, and the only bands of that genre i own albums of is Cathedral and The Obsessed, all good.

Erik, you are sooo right when you say that Unholy is highly underrated. They should def be more well-known by now. Gracefallen is also my favorite album by them. They are a strange mix of doom.

I have a few songs from them and i think they (or should i say he) are awsome. You should have a listen to silent cry, i think it is their best song.I wish i could get hold of the new album, not sure if it is out yet. Have any of you had a listen to ningizzia? Also a good band.
