doom

Well, you're right - I've heard of some Brazilian doom metal bands, although, Brazilian myself, haven't really listened to them. I've read a couple of reviews on MyThrenody (http://www.mythrenody.com).
There's also Silent Cry which is quite famous. Again, I could be wrong about these bands' styles -- I know them only by magazines and sometimes it's pretty confusing to label this or that. But I guess it's worth a try. :headbang:

i´ve heard a few songs from silent cry, the production is not that great but, well, is not a bad band, the female vocals are very nice, the male ones are pretty weird. It seems they dont like gutural vocal too much,as soon as they starts the clean vocal starts and cover it. lol.

First of all, I read through a bunch of these threads yesterday and I noticed that I've been rude to you, Vicious. Sorry about that. No offense meant. Thanks for answering when most don't seem to want to bother. :]

I can immagine Silent Cry and I know what you mean. Basically a gothic band who thinks that if they grunt once in a while, people will call them gothic doom? It seems to be quite a trend.

I'm liking what I'm hearing from Poema Arcanus alot. The more I hear, the more I like.

Chile seems to have a solid base for a big doom scene. If doom fans go to doom-metal.com and search for Chile, you'll get a pretty good list.

Right on. Thanks a bunch. Nice Homer quote, while I'm at it.

Mar de Grises is interesting very melodic at parts and very heavy and tight parts. I'm a big fan of the moodswing. They have transitions, too, though, which is far too often a forgotten piece of the puzle. I like it.

That seems to be the only sample that my drunk ass can find at the moment. I checked them all, though, and I'm getting a feel for the scenes.

Any mexican doom bands you would recommend? Any other latin american doom bands at all, preferably with a brief review?

You should check http://www.doom-metal.com and take a look at the bandlist, there's a good review and description of each band. I think, these are all the latinamerican doom bands that i know!
This band is from Panama:
Spirit of the deep waters: geocities.com/sotdw
haven't heard the yet, but now i have the mp3 samples and i will do it!!!
And from Mexico, i only knew a band that already is disbanded: ARGENTUM. They used to have a website: http://www.argentum.8m.net/main.htm
but is not working anymore, maybe you can find info about them in some Black Metal pages or something. This is because they where labeled as black. But for my taste they are some kinda doomish. Slow music, haunted keyboards and powerful voice.
They used to label themselves as Death/Doom/Black!

I'm all over doom-metal.com. It's one of my favorite sites. There's a whole lot going on out there that they don't report on, though. Especially bands coming from underrated scenes like those in South America.

I'm looking into Spirit of the Deep Waters right now.

As you suspected, I've found Argentum in a couple of black metal lists. None of the links seem to work.

In order to help Doom-metal.com people you can send them a link or inof about the doom bands that you know near you area!
Alreday they have listed a lot of Chilean bands ( it seems that they have a huge scene there)
Personally, the best bands i have heard are Poema Arcanus and Mardegrises.
Mythological Cold Tower (brasil) are good, but i prefer the bands i've mention before.
I'm still in the process to digest the other bands. Silent Cry and My Threnody sounds a little goth to me, but still they are good bands!

And about Argentum, their "official" page used to work like 4 months ago, that was the place where i did found all the info aboout them, and i managed to get a Cd from them (Stigma Mortuorum). They disbanded like 3 years ago, and i think that other three releases. And looking for them, maybe Argentum is not 100% Doom but they do a good job, approaching to the genre!
If you're interested i can send you a copy of their album, let me know!
Doom On!

doom-metal.com is still building its bandlist and doing a fine job of it. When I find stuff, I'll pass in on to them as well as this forum.

Thank you for the kind offer. I'd rather just keep an eye out for the album on a mailorder list, though. I like to toss some money to the band, even when defunked, when I can. :]

I found a list of some doom bands from Colombia. I didn't make up the labels.

Mandrax - black doom
Cruel Death - doom
Blood Primes - doom death
At Dusk - doom death
Akhenaton - doom death
