FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 13, 2009

New York, NY:

Progressive metal veterans DREAM THEATER have announced BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS as the title of their tenth studio album. The band commenced work on the album – their second for Roadrunner Records, following up 2007's Systematic Chaos — in October of last year.

Roadrunner will release the record on June 23. In addition to the standard version CD, the album will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc Special Edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

Six weeks prior to the June 23 street date, Roadrunner will release one cover song per week through digital retailers.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again at the helm as producers, while Paul Northfield mixed the record.

The band will embark on a world tour in support of the album beginning in Europe throughout June which will be followed by the second edition of the band’s PROGRESSIVE NATION tour featuring Zappa Plays Zappa, Pain Of Salvation and Beardfish throughout North America in July/August.

A video for the first single, "A Rite of Passage" will be shot in late March.

The track listing for BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS is as follows:

1. A Nightmare to Remember
2. A Rite of Passage
3. Wither
4. The Shattered Fortress
5. The Best of Times
6. The Count of Tuscany

Sounds very interesting. Cover reminds me of ToT meets Awake, very cool.

Only 6 songs, should be epic, which imo is what they do best.

And 'The Shattered Fortress' sounds like what should be the last of MP's aa saga...

Looking forward to it!

Just listen to anything Train Of Thought and later. Durr. But I digress - good for them that they're still in business. Unfortunately for myself, even if this album comes out of the dark blue sky among the relevant and the fresh, it will sour a bit in light of the disappointment of their hubris.

hmm...

Sounds good. Looking forward to it.
And yes, that cover looks pretty cool.

God, how I wished the title of this thread was:
"Symphony X - "any name you want" - coming today!!!

Yeah I wish SymX was this quick in making new records. I find it rather understandable though, considering the quality of their records. :headbang:

That DT forum... what little I read on that topic is.... scary

I dont know where Dream Theater can go from where they have been. They have done so much music over the past two decades I cant understand why they release new albums at the rate they do. I suppose they are just riding the wave while its rolling.... I really dont know. I'd like to hear them break some mold and certainly stop writing/playing tributes to the style of other bands music. Honestly I dont expect to hear much new from them, they have done their thing for so long and so often. Personally I think they would do best musically to take a long break and wait for something truely new or at least astonishing (by their best standards) to pop out. Im sure financially this would not be the best move but musically it would.... regardless I will probably at some time buy the album.

:lol::lol:

Exactly why I stopped posting. It's like some sort of cult or something over there. Hell, I stopped posting just prior to the release of ToT because it was just too much to keep up with. I would imagine it's 1000 times worse now.

LOL

While reading this I couldn't help but hear the voice of some pretentious/snooty Harvard professor type.
