Even traditional death metal is pretty technical. Not to mention that tech death is one of the most technical and complex genres out there right now.

I've always considered Atheist as tech thrash as opposed to tech death. I don't know why people consider them as a death metal band. They sound like Watchtower with throatier vocals to me.

Train of Thought is one of the heaviest and true metal albums ever wrote and is super technical as well .
