Ok so I must admit up until reasonly I didn´t care much for DT. But when I heard "In the name of god"(Of the ToT cd) changed my view on the band drastically.
Damn that song rules!:OMG:
But anyway my question is simply what are their BEST albums and why??

My favourite CDs by them are "Awake" and "Metropolis 2: Scenes From a Memory" just because they're great. The new one has some good songs, like the one you mentioned, but some parts you have to check the CD case to make sure you got a DT CD rather than Linkin Park or something.

Awake and Images & Words are definitely the best albums, but if you like the wankery then check out Scenes From A Memory,Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence or Train Of Thought too...the lesser that you want to hear LaBrie go as high as he can the further you have to go back in time.

Blah. Train Of Thought has some good songs but some of the heavy parts sound forced and the wankery is still there...who wants to listen to a solo like in In The Name Of God? It's a great song otherwise, but the solo ruins it. I don't think I'll buy that album cause it's harder to skip the solos with a cd player than with winamp...

Awake and Images & Words just have so much more emotion...up to Scenes From A Memory all the albums do. After that it went over the edge...Six Degrees was good at first, but now...please.

I think "In The Name of God" is by far the WORST track on Train of Thought, it repeats approximately 3000 times. "As I am" kinda sucks too, but the rest of that cd has some pretty slick riffs. As far as their best cd(s) goes, I'd say get Awake and try to find A Change of Seasons used. Awake is just great, and A Change of Seasons is an EP with a 25 minute song that is probably the best thing they've ever done and a bunch of live covers that aren' really worth the money. Still, I'd recommend it over Metropolis 2, Six Degrees, and Images and Words. I think Falling into Infinity is pretty good too, but it has a fair amount of filler. I realllly like their debut, but I'm sure no one else here agrees with me. :D

I would definitely say get A Change of Seasons...even though only one song on the album is their's, it's damn worth it. Also get Images & Words; it's kind of the album that set the standard for prog bands/albums to come

You must be joking.

Anyways, I think ToT is their best by far.... they finally dropped their cheesiness and prog cliches and made an awesome epic metal album. And no typical crappy DT ballads too. (the 2-3 min interlude is not a ballad) They are probably the worst ballad writers ever. Space Dye Vest is their only good one.

i see what you mean about linkin park... theres rap in 'honor thy father'

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

at least james can sing as well.

anyway, 'in the name of god'????

yeah i know, DT is soooooooo linkin park because of 20 seconds of "rapping" (if you insist on calling it that) on a 70 minute album. could these comparisons be any more broad?
