This is like American Idol or some other reality tv bs, you can understand why they told Portnoy fuck himself if they are that much of a cash cow. Reminds me of South Park when they were auditioning best friends. Cringeworthy to say the least. Would love to see Roddy get it but that's because of the DM fanboi in me :D
Don't really care who gets it because all those drummers are amazing. New album better be good though. Or at least get Kevin Moore in to write some "songs".

Ha, really don't get why people bitch/whine so much about the documentary and audition.
IMO its awesome to be able to see the whole process and hear the band members thoughts on it.

Oh if anyone, portnoy was the cash cow of the band ;).

Can't help thinking this is somehow inspired by the Nightwish thing marketing-wise, after Nightwish were all over the news for a while when replacing Tarja, it made them a much bigger band.
I'm enjoying the process a lot though. Mangini seems like he's THE man for the job, and I think he did a lot of justice to Portnoy's parts at the audition.

Also I'm a huge fan of Peter. The latest LaBrie album is so awesome, and some of the stuff he pulls off on Darkane (Secondary Effects and Godforsaken Universe for example) are simply stellar.

New episode is up tomorrow!

I don't like Labrie's face, he looks like a mongolian evil emperor.

haha awesome. you put into words what I was thinking.

anyway, I really enjoy this show, think it's really well made and I can't wait for the new episode.

could the TS make a poll so we can get people to vote on who will be the new DT drummer?

I prefer Mangini over Portnoy. He pushes the rhythm which is something Portnoy never did.

I hear some of you saying that you conclude from the video that Mangini is the new drummer... but this is just episode 1 and we haven't seen/heard their reactions yet for the other drummers being auditioned. This whole episode was about Mangini because he was the first one auditioned. Am I missing something?

I'm hoping Mangini gets the job - hoped it before I even saw the video, once I saw the names of the seven drummers he was at the top of my list as everything I've read and seen about him makes me think he would be the type of guy you would want in your band, not just a gig, or as a session drummer on your album, but as you lifelong drummer. He seems to have a great personality, from what I've read, he has a tremendous sense of humor and likes to joke around, he also definitely has the chops and knowledge (as if that was ever really in question with Mangini). Really looking forward to finding out who won. As for the reality show type way in which they are doing the reveal, I'm sort of liking it, it is certainly building up the hype which I'm sure was the intended purpose. Like it or not, it has popped Dream Theater right back into the metal worlds conscious quite quickly.

If you look at the youtube tags, Mangini is the only drummer mentioned. They already gave it away who got the gig, if you ask me.

Aquilles Priester is pretty damn good drummer! (he play in the band "Angra"), would love to see him in dream theater! i was impressed when i saw his name on the list.

Hahahaha.

The DT guys look/sound like cheesy douchebags to me, but this is entertaining to watch though. Mixing music and reality tv bs is kind of sad, i wish they did this in a more "regular" way.

It's kind of weird to see Roddy, Wildoer or Minneman in this.
Reminds me of the Metallica audition when they were having Trujilo and treated him like some random bystander when the guy was a fucking legend already (Suicidal and Ozzy FFS !!!).

And i guess i'm the only one who finds 95% of their music horrible :) (the only parts i like are the heavy parts, and they're not nearly half as good as the worst parts put out by the regular heavy bands out there IMO).

Also, it's crazy to hear how ridiculously good (tone-wise) the band sounds during those rehearsals. You cannot go wrong with amazing players + amazing gear + amazing sound engineers/producers. The high-pitch toms sound kind of weird though :)

Curious to hear the rest of the drummers !
