Drudkh - The Swan Road

Drudkh is more immediate, easy listening, while HF requires patience, at least for me. And like some others around here, I think Drudkh is way overhyped for what they offer. I like their albums, but they are far from classics.

I don't find Drudkh to be immediate or easy listening -- Forgotten Legends is a chore to listen to in one sitting -- but I honestly do think that Autumn Aurora is a fantastic release. It's not something I would ever want to part with.

In light of that, I'd be really surprised if TSR was better than AA, but hey, only time will tell.

P.S. Since we're all doing yousendit uploads now, can someone upload a new Drudkh track just for us to sample? Stop being so kosher and share the hhram.

Autumn Aurora and Battlefields are pretty damn close to perfect in every sort of way, so much that I shocked (and awed) that those are the only albums I have heard from each respective band. WTF I say, WTF.

That song, Fate, was pretty good. I especially liked the vocals, which reminded me of HF, which is a good thing.

Battlefields>Autumn Aurora

I don't find them to be incredibly different overall. Hate Forest focuses more on dark, warlike atmosphere and Drudkh on nature elements. The former is more intriguing from my point of view and hardly what I would call "run of the mill BM" as I feel you'd essentially be placing Drudkh in that category as well. I appreciate both albums, but the overwhelming darkness provided by Battlefields proves far superior to me. Drudkh was a beautiful listen driving through the mountains, but while listening to Hate Forest, an entire story of Kingdoms at war on a desolate plain grew in my mind. Images of a blackened army marching and slaughtering filled my mind. Throw that album on in the dark and it'll take you away. The Drudkh, while good, can be a bland listen at times and that is simply never the case with Hate Forest. It may just come down to which elements meet your tastes better, but I didn't find anything in Autumn Aurora that made it as spectacular as everyone here seems to think it is.

Huh, to me they are so different that I still question whether or not they were created by the same dude.

The only Hate Forest I've heard is "The Most Ancient Ones", and it haven't really struck me all that much... I might check out "Battlefields", if I find it cheap enough.

As for Drudkh, I only own "Autumn Aurora", and I find it to be a really nice album, although I have to be in a certain state of mind before putting it on. If I were to make a second "top of 2004" list, I don't think it would make the second spot again.

Yeah, I've already been there done that with Emperor. And they do it a million times better than Hate Forest, just ask NAD. :tickled:

But anyway, I think Drudkh and HF are different enough where someone can like one but not the other....

The Most Ancient Ones is probably the worst HF. Even the demo "The Curse" which is THE EXACT SAME SONGS is better than The Most Ancient Ones. I wrote a review of Battlefields and posted it on this forum shortly after it was released but without the search feature it would be difficult to find.

All I'll say is that Battlefields is a strangish mix of Doom, Black and slight (SLIGHT I SAY) elements of death metal. There is also awesomely inspiring folk singing between tracks, which for some reason a few people around here don't like, but they're fools ( :loco: ).

Purity is the second best HF and is more traditionally styled BM, sort of like TMAO, but faster, rawer, more agressive, and droning (in a good way).

The new one which is due out in a few months is supposedly much different than Battlefields and will be much faster and raw than the doomish battlefields.

okay, there's my Hate Forest rundown from a fanboy.

Every time I take a shit in the morning after a night of heavy drinking I say "well, at least it ain't Emperor." :dopey:

Møøse, there isn't a damn thing slight about death metal in Battlefields, that album is capital DM Death Fucking Metal.

Ok, based on a single listen (which one should never base anything on), the most awesome parts on The Swan Road are the beginning of Blood and the end of Fate. I kinda fell into a half-sleep during the middle (not 'cause it was bad, but because I was lying on my bed in the dark) so I'll have to spin it again a few times. Overall, I like it about equally to AA, but for different reasons. The new one's darker, less naturey, quite possibly more Hate Forest-ish. I like the guitar riffs better, but I like the AA drums better. "Song of Sich Destruction" came out of absolutely nowhere, but I like it a lot. I'll definitely need to be buying this album.

I know Redstream should be getting some eventually, but does anyone know any other sources for the vinyl in North America?

Herr Møøse are you going to get any CDs in? Let me know if so cuz like, I'll buy one from you (and shit).

D'oh. I love that egg by the way, Erik please resurrect your picture of the robo-chick or whatever it was kthx.
