DT+SX shows setlist

hey guys. saw symphony X lastnight in manchester.. damn it blew me away. It was all so faultless, this is the setlist if i can remember it

Oculus Ex Inferni (Intro Tape)
Set the World on Fire
Domination
Serepent's Kiss
Paradise Lost
Walls of Babylon
Inferno
Of Sins and Shadows
:worship:

amazing set for me, i was going mental, and most of the people had either not heard of them or just stood there. noobs!!!

Symphony X, im BEGGGING you to play a headline show in the UK somewhere, preferably newcastle :p

first post, hey guys :D

Hey guys,

Saw SymX and DT on october 9th in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

SymX setlist:
Oculus Ex Inferni
Set The World On Fire
Domination
The Serpents Kiss
and .... YES!!.... the Odyssey!!!:headbang:

Dt played: (but not in this order)
In the presence of enemies 1 and 2
Lines in the sand
Surrounded
The dark eternal night
Constant Motion
The ministry of lost souls
Blind Faith
Overture 1928
Strange Deja Vu
and bits and pieces from Octavarium, In the name of God, Finally Free, and a few others I can't remember...... sorry
Oh, and a nice surprise was the guitarsolo from Sugar Mice (from Marillion) that they played at the end of ..... eh... one of the songs, can't remember which one (Surrounded? An answer from anyone would be nice....)

Apart from the sound, which was horrible :erk: during SymX and not so great either during DT, it was a great concert. Shame (here we go again) that DT has too much solo's between their songs (the so-called show-offs:ill:). If they would not do that, they could have played a few more songs......

And I agree with the guys who said DT has gone downhill since Rudess became a member. I think he is an excellent musician, but his solo's are too much alike, and too chaotic :zombie:.

And the hot potato: Labrie's voice (never a problem IMO) was great.

Just my 2 cents.....

Went to the London show last night @ Wembley Arena. Symphony X delivered a fantastic performance, but the sound was a bit dodgy, and its just not the same atmosphere in an arena. Really, really hoping they come back for a headliner date in the UK in a smaller venue.

I think they played:

Occulus Ex Inferni
Set the World on Fire
Domination
Serpent's Kiss
Paradise Lost
Inferno
Sea of Lies
Of Sins and Shadows

Not totally sure about the order - can't remember where Serpent's Kiss came into it. Good setlist for a supporting slot I think!

Dream Theater were very impressive, but honestly I was left a little cold. As always the musicians were fantastic, but I wasn't blown away by the setlist or the atmosphere, so it just didn't click that well for me. You can't help but admire the guys, but the solo sections were a little too frequent and long-winded for me. LaBrie was probably the highlight of the set, his voice sounded absolutely superb.

Also met Herman Li from Dragonforce whilst walking around, which was unexpected!

just back from Lille France, they played 95 mins my guess...
setlist sez:

intro, set the world, domination, serpents, paradise lost, inferno, smoke, babylon, sea of lies, sins & shadows, the odyssey

best SX show I ever saw!

rawk on!

Really!? As much as I like DT, I am at times ashamed to admit I am even a fan. Some of their fans a complete fucking assholes. I know a few!

im a huge dream theater fan and a symphony x one as well....

what i dont get is some dream theater fans dont like symphony x at all, and some symphony x hardcores dont like dream theater at al...

thats totally unexplainable and it proves the strange mystery and unknown origins of the homo progressivus kind!!

as far as the setlist r concerned when i eard about their shows i thought of a 1 hour symx - 2 hour dream theater kinda thing..

35 min is indeed very few and no time for accolades(!!!!) and odyssey(!!!)..

i think its unfair to symx.. its like they fill up the blank till petrucci get his steroids, labrie drinks his eggs and rudess combs his hair!!!:loco:

DREAM THEATERRRRRR!!!

To be fair to Dream Theater though (and i hate to say this because again, hate dream theater ) it probably has to do with the regional curfiews and such. That'd be my guess anyway... which sucks because it means DT has a consistant set length and the opener suffers.

word.

I couldn't agree more (no pun intended!) about the whole downhill slide after Jordan joined. I was a HUGE DT fan in the KevMo years, and even like Scenes.
Every album after that left me a little less impressed, and a little more bored.
Systematic Chaos is the FIRST modern DT cd I didn't run out & get on release day, and will always be missing from my collection. IMO, stick a fork in em. They need to take a break, and take some time off to get the creative juices flowing again.

Symphony X has yet to disappoint me. I even like the debut. Never too mellow, never too heavy. They are still on my blind "to buy" list whenever they release anything. For the record, I'm a hyper-critical S.O.B., so it's more than just fanboi-ism. You can save those taunts for future Freak Kitchen threads! :)

I agree, but I do enjoy 6 Degrees a lot. You have to give them credit for doing new things though. I mean, not like it's any good or anything but still..

DREAM THEATERRRRRR!!!

Heres someone that thinks like me .... but did ya have to use the word... homo ? Huh? Did ya ? I might not wanna be a prog snob now!

As for the Symphony X / Dream Theater tour team up. I have givin this much thought. I concluded that this was probably not a good team up at this point, due to SX moving in a more solidly heavy context. It would have been a better team up with The Odyssey or earlier works tour so people could have heard the diversity of SX. But with all these reports of crappy sound that does not help them either because first time listeners wouldnt have a clue as to what they were even supposed to be hearing. That is the way it was at our concert too. I did well because I knew the old songs anyhow, but honestly I could make no intellegent evaluation of the new songs I hadnt heard, it was just a big jumbled mess. I want to run the sound for the next Symphony X tour... hear me !

DT ? I cant see whats wrong with Octavarium or Train of Thought, sure... not as inspiring as Images and Words but nothing can be, that LP just kicked my boot off, it was fresh then, everyone was taken on an adventure we had not yet been on. I dont know, Ill always like them. I live on the "remember where you've been" ideal and I can hear DT in any current progressive metal bands that I have heard. They really induced a wave of progressive metal and are still masters regardless their faults.

I like my SX too but Ill say I find SX to be very predictable, same as DT and cant listen to three SX CD's back to back anymore either. So I mix 'em up.

Between my old prog standards, DT, SX, Savatage, Fates Warning and Queensryche, which ever one Im listening to at the time is "my favorite", but for what ever reason in a throw down must choose ?..... Savatage comes out on top. Probably because they are in the middle, not drainingly intence and not overly down and deep. Just good songs with the Savatage flavor and a touch of madness. But damn I sure have played the hell out of these 15 to 20 cd's and tapes.

the quest continues

hehe, DT wasn't there, SX was headlining this one, warmup was a French femalefronted band who's name I already forgot...

I saw "warmup was a French..." and I was thinking either Adagio or Spheric Universe Experience, but then I saw "female fronted." Oh well.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention that Symphony X headlined. My deductive reasoning skills have been suffering lately. I'm gonna get hell for this from the brass. I hope Jax doesn't demote me to patrolman.

sorry J, but there is NO excuse to like the debut other than fanboy-ism ;)

Eat my ass & balls!

I agree, but I do enjoy 6 Degrees a lot. You have to give them credit for doing new things though. I mean, not like it's any good or anything but still..

I DO give them credit for that, but PoS does/did the same thing, The only PoS cd in my collection is OHBtCL, which I still listen to on occasion. It sucks for me when a band TRIES to be different, but the elements that drew me to the band in the first place are missing, or present in smaller quantities...
Sometimwes I think bands try TOO hard to push their progressive nature.
IMO, both PoS & DT are VERY guilty of this...
