Dual and Triple Recto's

the only models i have noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in and by significant i mean enough of a difference to warrant actually paying more are the older 2-channel duals and the 2-channel rackmount duals.

I've heard the Racktifiers are the best of the bunch, along with the Tremoverbs.

Yeah, I toured with a Tremoverb once and it was smoother than the 3-channel models but not as special as the older 2-channel ones.

I owned 2 of the older 2 chanels ( both from 1993)..they are a bit warmer.. the 3 channels have an edgier more modern metal gain, better clean channel and a real flexible footswitch...

mic'd up in the studio the 2 channel might have a slight edge depending on your tastes... I actually sold my 2 channels and gig with a 3 channel..it's a little different but no worse to my ears...

Anyone use El34s in the dual rec? I want to swtich to a set of 6l6s. I have access to both right now , and the dual and the triple sound the same to me.

Personally, I don't like EL34's in Rectifiers, at all. 6L6's are much more suited to the amp.

Whats up with older recto's sounding better? "How" do they sound better.

And "how" exactly does a triple rec sound "tighter" due to more wattage? I know The Testament "The Gathering" had Triple Rec and that album had a really good tone.

Also, Meshugga's Destroy Ereasy Improve and Chaosphere had old Dual Recs in them (not marshall as some might think, Fred told me). Also great sounding albums.

Whenever I crank a tube amp I find the low-end to sound thinner and the high-end to sound less "sharp" and the mids will open more. Personally I hate this sound. Is this that "tube-sound" everyone praises so much?

I tried the dual and trip side by side, I went with the dual 3 channel, I stand by my decision sonically and financially. I have never played one of the coveted two channel dual recs but I am interested in hearing for myself what difference there is, because allthough I dont doubt the wisdom of the folks that swear by them Its hard for me to imagine a more flexable and capable head than the dual 3 channel I own now.

How di'd they sound different sonically, was one tighter?

I just listened to some clips of the Bogner Uberschall, and that thing is a monster!! Any opinions? .. They're also the same price as the rectifiers.

I didnt really think so, I played them both with the volume around 1/2 way up, they sounded very much the same, and then I cranked them up all the way for minute, my take was the triple sounded damn clear all the way up and the dual broke up a bit more, kinda smeered with less note clarity, all the way up, And hell if I wanted my amp to sound perfectly in control with the volume maxed I wouldnt turn it up all the way, and I would even venture to say on stage or in the studio you dont really need to turn it up over 3/4ths the way no matter where you play or what you record.

ok, what's the deal about old vs. new rectifiers btw?
"Everyone" are saying the old 2ch recto sounds better, what do they mean by that...anyone here tested both side by side?
