Solos can sound great if they are done for the right reasons. Like, in "a darkness coming" there is a guitar solo type part that sounds like a crying guitar or something. Sometimes I listen to that song just for that part.
Malmsteen type solos would ruin any song of Katatonias. Alot of people think of guitar solos as a chance to show off, but if they are done because it feels right with the music then itll sound great. Check out some solos in Daylight dies music, fits the music perfectly.
