Are there any bands doing male vocal/goth metal as well as Poisonblack did on this particular record these days? I put this in the CD player the other day for the first time in a few years and I had forgotten how much I liked this disc. I was just curious.

I guess the most obvious suggestion that occurs to me... Have you listened to Charon, the main band of Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto, who was the vocalist on Escapexstacy? They've since broken up, but they released 5 albums from 1998 to 2005, which you should definitely check out (if you haven't already) if you like the first Poisonblack disc.

Ditto on the Charon, first thing that came to mind. Terrific stuff. I love this kind of thing too, which means I'm going to be watching this thread closely. I would also recommend Morian, I love their first album, although the second didn't hit me nearly as hard.

I'd also suggest Anathema with "Alternative 4" and "Judgement". Excellent albums both.

I also often turn to Paradise Lost when I'm in that mood, but that's probably a little too obvious for this thread.

Brian... that Poisonblack disc is one of my favorites of the last ten years. I've checked out subsequent Poisonblack releases, Charon, etc. I've found nothing that reproduces that vibe you're likely seeking.

I've heard of Charon, but I haven't actually listened to any of their stuff. I appreciate the recommendation.

I haven't heard of Morian, so I'll check them out. I have a couple of Anathema releases, but not the ones you've mentioned. I dig Paradise Lost for sure!

I agree...it's a great album. The rest of their stuff falls completely short. In my opinion, the guy that's at the helm now needs to go back to just playing guitar. He's completely stripped away that gothic vibe, with synths, to a poor man's modern Metallica sound...which isn't a good direction to go!

The first 2 Poisonblack albums (Escapexstacy and Lust Stained Despair) are 2 of my favorite albums of the last 10 years. Such an amazing and underrated band and those 2 albums are 2 of the most underrated albums of the last 10 years. There was a band called Tenebre that came out around 2007. I used to eat this stuff up. Unfortunatley there became a lot of these bands who all sounded the same.

I would post a Tenebre track for you, but for some reason my computer is acting like a jerk and won't embed the link. Fucking technology!

Cool, here we go. From 2005. Tenebre- Silver Flame

It's a little more 69 Eyes than Poisonblack, but it is still Dark, Melodic, and Finnish

I feel like the most obvious suggestion here is Sentenced, considering Poisonblack is Ville Laihiala's post-Sentenced work. The later Sentenced albums, like Frozen, Crimson, and The Cold White Light, are great examples of this goth sound. I think I literally wore out my copy of Crimson back in the day.

But I assume you are looking for bands that are not Ville-related...
