I'm at work and can only listen on a crap Mackie MR5 that's at ankle height in a giant particle board enclosure! Hardly a nominal listening environment. I was so stoked too, 'cause I just sent my guitar in for an install of EMG 85 and 81 with 18V and wanted to check out the differences I could expect.

But thanks for the post Marcus!

No problem man, no one was more curious than I! :) And Rupture, it didn't seem to be a problem when I ran the Blackout at 18v ;) I just made an easily-removable harness of sorts (got the idea from this page) so I wouldn't have to do annoying soldering. Observe

The bottom clip connects to the clip already wired in the guitar, and voila!

I dunno, I didn't try, but when there's a will there's a way! :D (in other words, I think they could...)

I actually like d its thicker on the chug and chords. I'd be surprised if b wasnt the 81 it's got that tinty weak sound to the chords

Metaltastic what are you wanting for the emu 49?
Can you mod duncans to 18 v. without fucking them up?

from what i understand they'll work, but your clean tone will go to shit

i remember when they 1st came out, some people swapped them out with EMG's that were running at 18V...dudes complained to SD that they sounded like ass, and SD asked if they were at 18...then they took out one of the batteries and the problem was solved

I think 'C' is my fave. 'A' has a nice melo-death esque chug, but seems to have too much low-mid/mid-bass material. I usually find it really hard to judge with your tone, but for this example only I would say C.

I hear ya Ermz, and I agree this tone has too much low-mid - I normally would eq out a lot of it, mind, but in all these shootout clips I want the clips to be totally raw. I think I'll try mic'ing one of the top speakers again, maybe the thinness I associate with them will actually help (but in the meanwhile, that's why the DI's are up there! ;))
