EMG 81 vs. Blackout Bridge (and also 9v vs. 18v) shootout!!

I certainly thought so! Also, the Blackout Bridge was WAY hotter than the EMG 81 and 85, so I wouldn't recommend mixing the two in one guitar either.

Oh my god, I just realized this is the SUPER old thread, good lord This was when I didn't have the pickups close enough to the strings (and these clips were recorded with my old Mesa Stiletto cab ), so I made another shootout that I think is far more illustrative of the differences:

I still like the 81 the best. Might be because I'm quickly developing into an EMG fanboi.

You and me both, especially for the 81 And if you wanna compare the 81 to the 85 in the bridge, check out this thread! (I neglected to include 85 at 18v for that test because in an earlier one in this thread I decided I actually preferred it at 9v)

hmm... Someone here once said, that an 85 would work better with basswood guitars in the bridge, and since I can't hear major differences in tone in that thread, it got me thinking whether I should get an 85 or 81 into the bridge of my RGR321EX (basswood)

oh well, if I'll get them both anyway, I can put them in the guitar either way I want. That said, my lazy ass will probably just put the 81 in the bridge and leave it there
