Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse

I only have Anthems and I don't think it's that good... Sure, it has a few good songs (it gets better towards the end) but overall it's mostly quite bleh and boring.

NAD needs to buy it. He would like it. I think I've listened to it... twice since it came out. I think I remember liking it somewhat, maybe I should give it some more listens.

It's pretty bad when you have 650+ CDs and you never have time to listen to any of them more than once or twice!

The only bits I can remember from Nightside is the BLAAAAAAAARGH!!!! at the start of the fourth song (which is about forests :)) and the synth at the end of the album...and the two bonus tracks on my CD copy! I think I'll dig this out tomorrow actually, cos I bought it about three and a half years ago and I think it took about two years for me to get into it...ain't listened to it for about 6 months so I might dig it more tomorrow. Final Fantasy and Emperor, ace

Prometheus is shit.
odd. because i'm listening to it right now and i'm very impressed. in fact, i don't remember it being this good. although i must point out (to NAD mainly) that this is NOT BLACK METAL, nor is it anything close to Nightside. this is more like progressive/technical/symphonic death metal or something. whatever it is, i'm enjoying the hell out of it at the moment.

I listened to Emperor's 4 albums the other day. The first two are the only ones that impressed me. I liked Prometheus when it came out, but it was a chore to sit through the other day (though not nearly the chore Equilibrium was).

Yeah, Prometheus isn't black metal at all. Emperor went technical prog on us, and fucked up.

I hate when bands "experiment" and "evolve".

NAD - I'll do you a favor here with all seriousness....

Get headphones. Turn out lights. Allow yourself to adjust to the darkness. Turn up the volume to '11'. Select track #3 - "Cosmic Keys to my Creations and Times".

Let me know when your out of body experience is over.

Yeah, that song is pretty good, I'll even admit to that. I'll let you know how the headphones thing goes when I get a chance.

i concur.
the only memorable song on that album is inno a satana, the rest, like you said, sounds alomst identical and the production is crap. it's not a good idea having harsh production (intended or not) on an album with so many layers, at most times it only becomes a rising and falling hiss. the songs i heard from "live cermony" sounded a lot better actually, mostly due to the fact that the riffs where audible i assume.

Lolz, what a moran; I made a search for a thread about this album to praise it properly, and stumbles upon this rant. Pft.

Anyway, this album just keeps getting better with every passing year, and is without a doubt one of the best BM albums ever. The production that I couldn't really understand before, now appears to me to be quite perfect for this album. Such a lo-fi muddy sound just adds heaps of atmosphere to music that already reeks of it. It, quite simply put, sounds ancient.
