Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse

The production that I couldn't really understand before, now appears to me to be quite perfect for this album. Such a lo-fi muddy sound just adds heaps of atmosphere to music that already reeks of it. It, quite simply put, sounds ancient.

Exactly. Perfect production for BM. Ishahn sounds like he's wailing from beyond the mountains, and the keys are just subtle enough to offer some semblance of melody.

The production made this album hard to get into for me, but once I got it, I loved it and still do.

p.s. Anthems kinda bores me.

haha, I remember when I used to hate this album. :loco:

I still don't love the production, but I definitely dig the album as a whole. Oddly enough my favourite surroundings to listen to it is a dark, hot night.

Ron Paul >>> Emperor

He was very solid at the Republican debate last night. Though his point of view seems more Libertarian in nature, it's refreshing to see that kind of passion for an unpopular point of view within your own party. That shows conviction to me and I respect that tremendously.

Jason

P.S.: I'll put him on par with Emperor, LOL - Anthems owns :kickass:

^ Yeah, I think he ran against Bush Sr when he didn't get the Republican nomination.

He's been a presidential candidate for the nominee for the Libertarians previously hasn't he?

Wow, I had no idea, how about that - call my commentary an educated "guess" so to speak. :)

I suppose it would be nice for him to have the backing of the major party funding should he be successful in his campaign. I absolutely hate the fact that for the most part you need to rely on the two party system to provide a realistic shot at winning the presidency.

It's odd that he chooses to run as a Republican. As I think everyone would agree, his views are much more Libertarian. And I would view Libertarians as closer to Democrats than to modern day Republicans, especially in light of the current administration's views.

100% agreed - I've pondered this myself. Perhaps he feels his voice stands out more in a field of candidates where 98% have an opposite or at the very least, much more moderate point of view, than in a field of candidates where his voice closely mirrors that of his fellow opponents.

And perhaps that's the whole point - he knows he won't be nominated, but is using his platform now to get his message out to as many people as possible, particularly to those who may not ever listen to the Democratic or Libertarian candidates out of close minded party loyalty. If that's the case I truly admire him for that.

Not that I'm an expert on this - not my country after all (so I've probably missed something) - but he does have some common ground with most of the republican candidates doesn't he? He's fiercely pro-life, pro-gun, anti-immigration, and pro-religion, while promising to lower taxes; all in-line with the party policies. What is it that sets him so apart from 98% of his contemporaries?

Anthems is Emperor's best effort, and carries the kind of feel that others fall short in trying to achieve. Anthems is in fact one of my top 5 best extreme metal albums.

if you do get it, give it a proper listen. repeatedly.

You may be right, I completely admit I don't know much about him other than what I've heard in the debates this year. If so, then only the issues he's been most vocal about set him apart - but that's all I've really heard. Plus, when I found out today he ran as a former Libertarian candidate, it further enhanced what I had been thinking.
