Engl Blackmore Clip: Slayer - South Of Heaven

Mark

That sounds pretty sweet to me. Is that just guitar and amp - how loud do you have to crank it to get that tone?

Thanks man! Yeah, it's just the guitar and amp. I had the lead volume on 5 and the master hi-gain volume on 1.

dude that tone is pretty sweet but the thing that's enoying me in this mp3 is, where are the natural trems ><! ?? everytime the 5th note you just hit it. but the soundi sreally cool !

The natural harmonics you mean? Yeah, I forgot about those! I don't have a whammy bar on my guitar anyways, isn't it natural harmonics with some whammy stuff? Glad you liked the tone though!

Thanks for this post. I'm going to Europe for a short tour in a month and this was the only non=Marshall channel switching amp I could rent. I was going over kind of blind with just the clips from Rock Solid Amps to go by and now I know that this amp sounds great.

I know that it's billed as a 4 channel amp but is it possible to get a nice thick tone AND a perfectly clean tone with the amp even though both channels share an EQ?

Sounds kind of muddy to me? This is the Blackmore? Which mic? Which mic pre? Which sound card? These are details we'd like to know. In any event, it sounds like you captured the amp fairly well - just maybe needs more BALLZ/PUSH/pick attack?

It's very easy to get an awesome clean and distortion tone with the same EQ settings. I never change my EQ when I switch to clean, I just engage the contour switch usually, and I always leave the bright switch in.

I used a Sennheiser E609 with an M-Audio DMP-3 mic pre. My soundcard is just the stock one that was in my computer. I don't really think it sounds muddy at all, but thanks for listening.

Thats cool... i sold my 609.. didnt really care for it... not that it is MUDDY.. just.. needs a bit more BITE... more bark, growl..

Sounds good. I too think it would sound better if it were a little brighter though.

My cab is very bright, I try to dial that out for the most part, I prefer a darker tone. The cab lets me dial in a dark tone and still be able to cut through though. Plus, it's Slayer, so I wanted it to sound evil and dark! :p

Before you see the light...you must DIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Sounded pretty sweet to me. Possibly a bit muddy but I think you'd have to put it in context of being in an actual song and stuff. As it stands as just a tone test, sounds pretty good I reckon.

Hey Mark, thanks for the response. It's now one less thing for me to worry about. I like that it's alittle bit dark sounding. Great Job!!

Thanks man, you'll love the amp! The only thing that's not awesome about it, is that it's the most unforgiving lead amp ever. Honestly, every little mistake is magnified. It's the opposite for rhythm stuff though, it seems to clean up your playing for riffs and such. I found it odd that Blackmore would design an amp that magnifies lead playing mistakes, when he was such a sloppy player. Not saying he's bad at all, he's incredible, but still weird to me.

Have you heard "Blackmore's Nightmare"? If that's not enough reason to think the guy is odd I don't know what is!! :loco:

Haha, he doesn't even play guitar on that does he? I think I recall hearing a few songs, but I don't really remember them.

Blackmore is without a doubt my favourite guitar player of ALL TIME. He is just incredible. I know he isn't really the most technical, or has even the most feeling or anything, there's just something immediately identifiable about his style. Something I can't put into words, he just chooses the best notes all the time and in all cases when he breaks into a solo it lifts the song up into the stratosphere...and I love the tones he uses...

I'm a fanboy of Blackmore. :erk:

Second fave probably like Iommi, or Tony Bourge of lesser-known band Budgie. I worship those guys.

Have you heard "Blackmore's Nightmare"?

You mean Blackmore's Night!? Interesting music...
