What kind of EQ(equaliser) preset do you guys use when listening to death metal on your computer?

Kind of a "V" shape. High treble and bass and a low mid.

Ditto, but slightly more S than V...

Pretty much flat with some bass boost.

I want to hear the recording as they are, unless they totally suck donkey balls.

True, but you will never hear the recording as it truly is meant to be as speakers vary in quality. If I'm using my high quality earplugs, I just use bass boost, but I found that EQ works great for my HIFI and PC speakers.

I know exactly you're saying, but here's the way I look at it (not that it really matters): when a cd is mastered, the mastering engineer tries to shape the overall product so that the music sounds as consistent as possible across the board. Sure speakers vary and will boost/cut certain frequencies that others won't, but I try to keep EQing to a minimum (mainly to fine tune my speakers) so that everytime a song/cd changes, I don't have to fuck with it all over again.

Of course, some cds do call for drastic EQing as they simply sound like shit w/o any, or they sound a lot better with it. :spin:

Well I do find my S shape works for most things, I rarely have to change it.
