Explosions in the Sky (Attn: Doomcifer and NAD)

I sort of stumbled on Explosions... by chance and I must say they have all it requires to deserve huuuuuge respect among fans of the post rock thing. However, they're only that short of taking me really high. Maybe their music should have more... explosions.

Guess I have to go chasing some Do Make Say Think now, eh?

from Kayo Dot's new label, Robotic Empire (as I shamelessly pimp mein "potes" in the coolest band on the planet):

Kayo Dot: the newest and maybe the most epic band to join Robotic Empire's roster. It is an absolute privilege to be working with this eight-piece beast of a band as their debut album Choirs of the Eye is quite possibly one of the most creative and unique heavy releases in existence, aptly with its release on John Zorn's prolific Tzadik label. Robotic Empire is extremely proud and excited to welcome them to the label and absolutely cannot wait for the fall release of their to-be-titled sophomore album. Almost impossible to justly put into words, Kayo Dot is both difficult to call a metal band and difficult to not call a metal band, blending a wide array of haunting atmospheric elements with ultimately unreal and massive climaxes. Not quite in the soft-loud-soft way that many powerful bands operate (Godspeed, Mogwai, etc.) but more akin to classical compositions. Regardless, it's absolutely enthralling music and we are excited for you to hear this incredible band. We will have the Choirs of the Eye CD in our Online Store soon, but until then you can download the first song here.

Thanks for the hardy welcome! Ah yes, my avatar is from GY!BE. Good eye. It's no "Lift Your Fists..." but it was my first encounter with the band so it holds a sentimental place in my heart next to the first time I saw a Poison cover and thought the band was comprised of females.

Yes, I love WHCHSH by Do Make Say Think. I believe they really shine with their ability to build up so much tension in their music and then release it all at the drop of a hat. It's penis hardening.

I must admit, Mono is a band I've never come into contact with. I'm going to have to check them out.

Silver Mt. Zion (haven't heard them yet but they're part of GSYBE)
SMZ are fucking AWESOME, I only have Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward and honestly I like it more than GY!BE (I only have Lift Yr. Skinny Fists though).

Kayo Dot is the best that I've heard, but I only put them in the whole post-rock scene because there isn't any other way to describe them.

Ha, I would never have put Kayo Dot into a post-rock grouping. Genres are arbitrary regardless, but Kayo Dot is just too. : O!

I have "This is our punk rock..." by A Silver Mt. Zion and I enjoy it immensely.

Agreed, even when considering the obvious post-rock influence on songs like Marathon. As for the bands recommended here, I've had nothing but praise for Mono in the past, Mogwai are awesome (check out their new album of BBC sessions...RIP John Peel), and I've also recently gone nuts over Winter Hymn...their earlier one Goodbye Enemy Airship is also very cool.
And am I the only one who likes Yanqui UXO as much as Antennas? One thing for sure: it has one of the greatest album covers ever.

Dude, get He has left us but shafts of light sometimes grace the corners of our rooms. Absolutely my favourite ASMZ, and IMO it eclipses the rest
