Well, there you go, give your votes for these two Finnish metal masters. I was thinking for a good match with Sentenced and Amorphis is the only one that comes to my mind although they have differences musically... And I would like to see these two bands go head to head...

These two bands are very close for me. But I will go with Sentenced because they have Crimson, one of my fave albums of all times.. This album has simply many masterpieces and Ville was so fuckin good in this album. Amorphis has many solid albums though. Tomi Joutsen is a fuckin monster when it comes to vocals. He has a great diversity in his voice, but I can't say that I like their old singer.

Karelian Isthmus and Privilege of Evil vs. a band I've never heard. Even though Amorphis' whole discography is pretty lame, Amorphis.

Also: Skepticism, Thergothon, Demigod, Reverend Bizarre, and Beherit off the top of my head all blow these two out of the water in Finland :)

Wow I can't see what's very superior in Amorphis compared to Sentenced. Can you please tell us? And why most of the people ignore both of the bands latest stuff and only talk about their very early days... It seems very few people here listen to their newer albums...

North from Here and Amok = <3 for me
This, so vote = Sentenced, a band I've been a fan of since North From Here was released.
But Amorphis is also a good band. I should get into their newer stuff again. I kinda lost them for a while
This goes for me as well, I stopped following them after Tales... Listened a few times to their latest 3 albums, pretty good, but none of them really managed to pull me in.

I think the main issue for me is that Sentenced put out two very good records, Amok and Down, followed by a series of albums that were very average. I thought the last 2 Sentenced records in particular had very few good songs and the choruses were far less memorable then anything on Amok or Down. (edit: I did like the majority of the songs from Frozen and Crimson as well now that I have browsed through both of those albums)

Amorphis, on the other hand, have put out 3 excellent records in a row recently (in addition to several other excellent albums, including the groundbreaking Tales). Skyforger was my 2009 album of the year! They also have far, far more diversity in their music (although it is structurally simple) compared to Sentenced. With Sentenced you got melodic hard rock/metal, that was it. With Amorphis you get both of those plus death metal, 70's classic rock sounds, and finnish folk melodies/acoustics thrown in there. Vocal wise, Tomi Joutsen owns Ville Laihiala (although his voice was perfect for Sentenced and I really do enjoy much of their work from North from Here through Crimson).

Best Sentenced records are Crimson-The Funeral Album. I'd take either of those three over anything Amorphis has ever done.

Ah how can you ask this? It's like trying to pick between children.

I really think I'm going to have to go with Amorphis, but my body won't literally let me vote against Sentenced. This is the hardest round so far. I guess I'm going to have to vote Amorphis, but I will have to make it up to 'The Cold White Light' by taking it out to dinner, a movie, then bedding it rigorously.

i can understand this statement only if you discovered sentenced through crimson.

frozen was the same down but improved a bit. crimson was the same frozen, with some good singles, but some bad songs as well. after crimson only the production of the albums got better, but the songs got worse. it was the same stuff they already done on down & frozen if you look at the wider picture, you know.

amorphis had a HUGE impact on the whole death / doom metal scene back in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. i can understand missing that if you weren't there when those albums were released. same goes for tiamat (1992 - 1996 period)

sentenced was a metallica / maiden influenced band with gothy / doomy atmosphere, and as somebody else put nicely, amorphis' scale of influences was very wider.
