3. Becoming, Vinnie Paul, Pantera, Far Beyond Driven
2. Could It Be So, Sami Kuoppamäki, Kingston Wall, II
1. Schism, Danny Carey, Tool, Lateralus

Probably.

Ok, I totally love this question, but it's really hard. Here's my attempt to come up with a list so far:

10. 'Collossus', Asgeir Mickleson, Borknagar, Quintessence.

9. 'Radical Cut', Hellhammer, Arcturus, The Sham Mirrors.

8. 'The Grudge', Danny Carey, Tool, Lateralus.

7. 'Cosmic Keys To My Creation And Times', Faust, Emperor, In The Nightside Eclipse.

6. 'Black Seeds On Virgin Soil, Nick Barker, Old Man's Child, In Defiance Of Existance.

5. 'Banquet', Matt Tong, Bloc Party, Silent Alarm (the song that springs to mind, but he probably as a better drum track somewhere, might edit this later).

4. 'The Day It All Came Down', Markus Hirvonen, Insomnium, Since The Day It All Came Down.

3. 'The Raven And The Rose', Shaun Taylor-Steels, My Dying Bride, The Dreadful Hours (not technically the best, but the drum pattern from that song stuck in my head for weeks!).

2. 'Shitstorm', Gene Hoglan, Strapping Young Lad, Alien (too many to choose from).

1. 'Deliverance', Martin Lopez, Opeth, Deliverance (I think that's his finest hour).

Goddamn that was hard! I know that I've forsaken some better drummers (Joey Jordison, John Theodore, Mike Portnoy), but those are the ones that spring to mind as individual favourites. I may have chosen the wrong specific songs for some (Matt Tong, Hellhammer, Gene Hoglan), but the rest I'm very fond of. I've also deliderately only chosen one track by each drummer, because otherwise the list would probably just be Lopez and Hoglan.

10) "Spirit Crusher", Death (Richard Christy)
9) "Symbolic", Death (Gene Hoglan)
8) "Flattening of Emotions", Death (Sean Reifert [or is it Reinert? I always forget])
7) "Dream of Mirrors", Iron Maiden (Nicko McBrain)
6) "The Glass Prison", Dream Theater (Mike Portnoy)
5) "YYZ", Rush (Neil Peart)
4) "Schism", Tool (Danny Carey)
3) "The Burning Pits of the Duat", Nile (George Kollias)
2) "Unas Slayer of the Gods", Nile (Tony Laureano)
1) "Deliverance", Opeth (Martin Lopez)

Nonmetal:

Message to Love - Buddy Miles - Band of Gypsies
When the Levee Breaks - John Bonham - Zep IV
Won't Get Fooled Again - Keith Moon - Who's Next
When the Water Breaks - LTE2 - LTE
Liz Reed - Fillmore East - Allman Bros

The drumming on all these albums rule. Of course the jazzers smoke everyone else; that goes without saying.

Metal......this is gonna be harder...

Thomen Stauch - Time Stands Still or any other BG song...
Pick a Lopez track, they are all great, phenomonal drummer
Thomas Haake - Rational Gaze or FBM or any Meshuggah really
Gene Hoglan - Oh My Fucking God or All Hail the New Flesh
Axenrot - Brave New Hell

There is no way in hell I'm putting them in order. Number 1 is my favorite though.

20. Either Wreath, Deliverance or Master's Apprentices. You know who makes them.
19. The Oddyssey, Jason Rullo, Symphony X, The Oddyssey
18. A Change Of Seasons, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, A Change Of Seasons
17. Panic Attack, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Octavarium
16. Ytse Jam, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, W.D.A.D.U.
15. War Inside My Head, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, S.D.O.I.T.
14. New Millenium, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Falling Into Infinity
13. Hell's Kitchen, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Falling Into Infinity
12. Take The Time, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Images & Words
11. Stream Of Consciousness, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Train Of Thought
10. Metropolis Part 1, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Images & Words
9. Home, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Metropolis Part II
8. Fatal Tragedy, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Metropolis Part II
7. Beyond This Life, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Metropolis Part II
6. 6:00, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Awake
5. Caught In A Web, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Awake
4. The Mirror, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Awake
3. In The Name Of God, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Train Of Thought
2. The Glass Prison, Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, S.D.O.I.T.
1. Drum Check, Pete Sandoval, Morbid Angel, Heretic

If you don't know who my favorite drummer is by now then you are dumb. (I know number 1 might throw you off, though.)

Cult of Luna - Waiting For You
Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick
Primus - To Defy The Laws Of Tradition
Scarve - Asphyxiate, Irradiant
Meshuggah - Perpetual Black Second
Dillinger Escape Plan - 43% Burnt
Tool - The Grudge, Eulogy, Schism

No particular order there... I dont think Mike Portney is that good, he's got like no feeling. The technically best drummer would be Thomas Lang (almost unbelievable).

Ugh... people bashing on Portnoy again... look, he's my favorite drummer, and that's all there is to it. Apparantly neither of you have heard Dream Theater at all or even care about them.

OMG i cant believe u put the drum check off Heretic first! u gota be crazy. its just the same over and over of double bass gets boring after 20 secs. if u want proper drumming just go to live show of Arch Enemy or Slipknot cos theyr drum solos are varied and fucking good. EVEN the Motorhead solo i saw was 10x better cos it wasnt all the same. Anyone agree? Respect to Morbid Angel cos theyr normal songs are wicked

Umm... no thanks but I wouldn't be caught dead at a Slipknot concert! I really like that song. That's all there is too it. Pete's drumming is insane and accurate. I really didn't put much thought into my choices, so if I would have listened to the MA's songs again then I would have made a different choice. I'll change it sometime today.

^^^Slipknot aren't as bad as everybody says they are. I saw them live with Slayer in 2004, and the drum solo was awesome. Slayer pwned them though. Also, the drum solo at Arch Enemy was insane. I can't believe I left Daniel Erlandsson off my list!!!

Slipknot's drummer is crazy good. No I do not know his name, I mean, he is still part of Slipknot.
