FAVORITE SHOCK ROCK BAND

His music is regular punk except he just takes things to other extremes based on image and views. When you try and stick fruit up your own ass in front of viewers that is shocking and disgusting. He's actually seems genuinly disgusting rather than putting on an image. He's just a really gross person that would send even the most open minded person away. I was grossed out by him and I like extreme music,movies,etc..
Same here. I find him very shocking and offensive.

Marilyn Manson is just a vocalist that knows how to start controversy and piss off the right people. He's not directing his music to us because he would not sell records. His band is big reason why he's big because the music is not underground so it's not preventing his views/image from being noticed by the right people. He's no different from anyone else that has been controvesy in pop/rock. Madonna was controversial in similiar ways. His carrer is based on pop.

His early work was CERTAINLY underground in intent though. The lyrics, samples, song structures... everything was intended to be very dark and nightmarish to a degree. He changed his style dramatically on Antichrist Superstar, but Portrait and Smells like Children are both surprisingly morbid, for "confused teenage angst" type material. It's far less poppish and more so abstract/industrial.

I like Manson, though he's more goth rock rather than shock rock, IMO. I like a few songs by Slipknot, and they pretty much are shock rock, but nowhere near anything I would call a favorite. Alice Cooper is text book shock rock, and his work from the 1970's is genius, purely classic.
G.G. Allin was basically punk, but he did have a definite shock rock aspect, especially in the style of his performance (he is right up there with Alice Cooper for me, actually). One might consider Cradle Of Filth shock rock, but that might be a bit of a stretch.
As for music that sounds shocking, I'll go with Frank Zappa. He doesn't have blasphemous/disturbing lyrics, horrific theatrics, or any of that bullshit, but when you listen to his music, it is nothing less than shocking. Especially when you consider the fact that the man never consumed any drugs or alcohol when composing his music.

I agree. His intention is intended on being very dark and nightmarish. The thing is he only demenstrates that based on image and video's imo. If I just heard a marilyn manson song(even old) would not see it as being very dark or nightmarish based on a the music, but If I saw a video would sense those emotions that he wants to portray. He's just using art like in a video or movie to demenstrate terms. If I hear music I should sense an atmosphere or emotion of a bands intent. I should not have to see how they look like/dress or a video to get it, or a band should not have to worry soley on shocking someone based on appearence and personal views and opinions. Maybe i'm so use to listening to music that is considered weird his music does seem dark or nightmarish.

I don't see alice coopers music as being dark or nightmarish but his image is weird. that's how I see MM.

Not really.

If a band is shock rock in this thread how least or more it's talked about does not mean anything. Anyone at anytime can talk about another shock rock band. If people want to focus on the obvious than oh well, this is the reason why marilyn manson sells to much.

The name alone just sticks into peoples brains probably and then he dresses and looks like a freak to top of it. I think some people can't tell shocking from 'look at me' i'm marilyn manson, mixing marilyn monroe and charles manson together!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, listen to Portrait or Smells like Children again, maybe. They're both morbid, dark albums. The songs on these albums need neither video nor images to convey this fact.

Portrait is ok, but Antichrist is much darker imo! some pretty depressing stuff on it actually... like tracks 11 and 12, those were great (don't remember the titles ;) )

Because of the fact he might offend. This thread gives you very little options so.......King Diamond!

King diamond is not rock you idiot.

I don't see how King Diamond is offensive, though. There are far more offensive things than he.
